Demo of my latest work. It's a revamp of an earlier work!

Wait a few measures. I haven't added the percussion in the empty spaces yet.
EDIT : I added the percussion and changed the instruments.
BONUS TRACK!
EDIT: Full version. Just adding percussion creates an awesome, driving effect in my opinion.

Comments appreciated. Happy

My good friend IM.
Well, I'm really just going to be watching a couple areas of the forum, but I'll try to contribute more of my work to the collection for a while.
I'm really concentrating on a project with Minnek and a few other people that involves a lot of concept drawings and planning still.
BTW, I am going through and rating all of the songs in the song list. Looks like there is a lot of balancing to be done. What?!?!

Overall, the stuff is alright in my opinion, with the haunting melody being the best of the two (even though it is quite short).

The Wicked Woods just doesn't sound right to me. The first 30-40 seconds sound alright, but when both instruments start to get really high it seems out of place. When I think of a "wicked" woods, I don't think of a cutesy part between brass/wooded instruments. Then again, this might be what you are going for.

The haunting melody is nice, but I think it would sound a little bit better if the secondary part's last notes were held out a tad bit longer. Also, if you could somehow lengthen the whole piece a bit, I think it could be a really nice sounding piece.

Just my 2 cents bro.

very insightful, Meatball.
Tell me if these instruments work better. I didn't like the brass much either.
I also added a percussion track.

Ah, a battle version of the theme. Not complete, though. Not in the slightest!

Before listening to this rendition of the Wicked Woods theme, keep a couple things in mind. First, it's supposed to sound like it slows it's tempo in the middle from a charge to a sort of march. The transition back into the charge is wobbly and weird, which is the effect I was going for. Think of weakened heroes just barely defending against the last attack wave and then suddenly needing to take flight again.

http://www.geocities.com/shawn_john666/EONOST/WickedWoodsBattle.mid

I like how the Timpani sort of created harmony, which is weird... I might add a deeper Drum sound in there to make it sound more dramatic, as well as a constant ticking rythm track or something. It loops VERY strangely. My transition at the end is to blame for that. Haha! This song will eventually have more parts in it than I dare count.

Any advice?

I think it could shape up into a nice little piece, although i'm not a huge fan of the orchestral hit patch on that part for some reason. I don't really know what or if any other instrument patch would sound better though.

Let me know when you add some more meat to it though, especially the second half. I look forward to hearing what you come up with.

Something just dawned on me...
What is everyone using to listen to the music?
Is it being opened in Windows Media player or is it being opened in Quicktime...
I found that Windows Media player plays it MUCH better than Quicktime? Or maybe Winamp?...
It's sickening and insulting to my ability that Quicktime MURDERS my art. It makes it so much worse in quality... Not to mention some instruments are louder where they should be quieter.
So, please, PLEASE don't listen to them with Quicktime.
I haven't tested Winamp yet...
Anyway, download them and play them on Media player and then delete them if you have to. The quality is so much better on Media Player. Really confused

Midis can never be trusted to play exactly the same on different computers and on different programs. Just because it sounds good on your Windows Media Player, that is not a guarantee that it will sound good on other people's Windows Media Player. WMP uses the MIDI synths that it has available to it, which may vary depending on your windows version, your soundcard driver, and possibly even on other factors.

The only way to be ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that a MIDI file will play EXACTLY as you want to to play is to convert it into a non-synth MP3 or OGG (and even the MIDI converter you use may have its own limitations on synth quality)

So my music is screwed, basically. I appreciate the info, James. I will cherish it forever and ever, like a worn and tattered stuffed animal friend and go cry into it in a corner until I learn to transpose into Mp3 format. Ha ha ha!

Oh, now that the band's cd is finally finished and being released tonight (more like escaped), I'll devote some time to listening to your recently uploaded tracks.
