So I was just working on W:P1 today...

...

... okay, you can pick your jaws off the floor. Yes I'm still working on it.

Anyway, I was just working on it today, thinking how much easier it would be for my scripts if maps could have a "Previous" bitset for music in addition to the -none- and specific songs it already sports. When set to "Previous", a map would not have a default song (like with -none-) but instead of playing nothing it would continue playing whatever song is already being played, or whatever song the previous map was playing.

Specifically what I have in mind is that I can trigger a 'hurry up' song and then have it continuously play as I navagate between two maps. If I do it via plotscripts, the song stops, starts playing the map's default song, stops, then starts playing the song listed in the plotscript. It kinda ruins the mood when the song stops.

That's a very good idea. I second that. A switch between maps alone is often somewhat jarring, and the effect can be even further exacerbated by a sudden drop in the music. That sort of effect can be devastating to the drama you try to create with music.

I actually asked James for this over 6 years ago. He said he'd put it in, but hasn't yet...

Battles could use this feature, too. Final Fantasy games don't tend to switch music during escape sequences, even for battles.

You can stop the music from stopping/playing when changing map with the 'plot:suspend map music' command, which was added in 'Serendipity', after you requested it. It doesn't affect battle music. Maybe another command for that.

It sounds like it would be a good idea to change "none" to "silence" and add "none set".

What'd also be nice is 1) an update to HssEd, which I use the context help to remind me of the proper syntax for certain commands, and 2) this board starts emailing me again when someone replies to a topic I posted in. I didn't even know anyone replied to this topic until I came here.

I think at this point James is never going to update HSSed (it's still useful). The only thing I would want fixed is the fact that it still says "Remotepad" in the taskbar and the bug where it can't remember the location of the compiler in WinNT/XP/Vista.

Syntax highlighting would also be cool but probably beyond the scope of what James wanted it to do.

Remotepad is awesome for working on PHP scripts

That would be a goodie, but all I really want is an updated context help. Updating the context help would serve to remind me of the existance of the newer commands.

That would be a groovy feature. It ought to be in bugzilla :)

I still have the source code for remotepad somewhere, but it was written for Delphi 4, which is pretty ancient. I will not be updating it anymore myself.

I think it would be easier to hack together a HamsterSpeak editor with syntax help from scratch. Or maybe a plugin for scite or some other decent programmer's editor.

I tried making a syntax file for EditPlus, but that costs money or it locks you out after 30 days.

Plus I couldn't get it to highlight both "begin, end" and (, ) for some reason.

My favorite feature of HSSed is the syntax help, especially since you can extend it by modifying the dictionary files. It's allowed me to use as a cheatsheet when plotscripting.

I just read the whatsnew.txt file and I'm surprised that the next version can play MP3s. Not that I use the Ohrrpgce anymore (except for Wingedmene), but it's interesting because those old Ohr FAQs said something like "No, the Ohrrpgce will never ever have MP3 support!".

Those FAQs were refering to the QuickBasic version of the OHR, which had no hope of ever supporting MP3. The modern version is a 32-bit native program (thanks to the work of Simon Bradley who rewrote the whole assembly library himself), so doesn't have those limitations.

Yes. OHRRPGCE finally decided that 640K was not enough for everyone.
