First off, I hate the radio. I hate listening to all those whiny teenagers complain about how they suffer. And I hate the hold that pop culture has on our youth. The best songs I know of come from movie musicals.
Moulin Rouge - Come What May
Moulin Rouge - Hindi Sad Diamonds
Moulin Rouge - El Tango De Roxanne
Moulin Rouge - Elephant Love Medley
Moulin Rouge - Bolero (end credits)
Evita - Don't Cry For Me Argentina
Chicago - Class
Chicago - Cell Block Tango
Chicago - All That Jazz
Chicago - Nowadays
Grease - You're The One That I Want
Grease - Greased Lightning
My Fair Lady - I Could Have Danced All Night
West Side Story - America
I also like Blue Man Group, but not really any specific song.
I've got weird taste in music, I admit it. _________________ You got film in my video game!

"Yesterday" Beatles
"Day Tripper" Beatles
"Penny Lane" Beatles
"The Masterplan" Oasis
"Columbia" Oasis
"Live Forever" Oasis
"The Fame" Oasis
"Bridge over Troubled Water" Simon & Garfunkle
"Piano Man" Billy Joel
"Driftwood" Travis
... that's all I can think of. _________________ "Blast a highly populated area into ashes, blame it on Fighter, and run like hell?" -Black Mage, 8-bit theater

"The Lion Sleeps Tonight" was first written and recorded by a group of African singers; If I remember their name, I'll edit it in. It is probably not the version people here think of; I'm pretty sure it is nothing but vocals, with a very slow, loose tempo and arrangement. The group had come out of the new Christian influence in the area (Christian missionaries have been busy as hell in Africa over the past I don't know how many years). You can definitely hear the influence of Christian choral techniques.
In conclusion, the original is awesome, but the familiar recording (I don't know who that is) is pretty cool too.
EDIT: Okay, the name of the group was (or is) Solomon Linda and the Evening Birds. Their name for the song was "Mbube", which means "Lion" in Zulu, their native language. I don't know if it's downloadable, but if you find it, it's worth a listen.
DOUBLE EDIT: Okay, my dad says that the Tokens recorded the famous version that you hear on Oldies radio.
I agree with Squall about the patheticness of teenagers on radio complaining about life. That's why I hate punk music like Blink 182 (sorry, guys). But I really don't like musical theater either; too much emotion that sounds too fake most of the time, that's just my opinion.

Blink 182 is NOT punk. Neither is Sum 41 or the Offspring or any of that other shit they play on the radio. If you want to hear some current punk stuff, try Pennywise or Strung Out. Those are some good bands.
(I'm not a music snob, I swear!) |

You know Camdog, I agree with you. My cousin calls people like Blink "suburban punk", and the problem with it is that American suburbia has no good reason to complain, so they have to complain about stupid stuff. I don't know too much about 'real' punk, I think Black Flag was pretty good... I generally do not like anger in music, though... |

Setu's favorite songs (and you'll really think I'm weird when you see this):
- All Star, by Smash Mouth
- Hollow Again, Project 86
- Rollin', Limp Bizkit
- Everything Sucks, Reel Big Fish
- Paranoid, Green Day
- Heart of Sword, Rurouni Kenshin
- Bring me to Life, Evanescence
- Touniquet, Evanescence
- My Immortal, Evanescence
- Lift Me Up, The Benjamin Gate
- Superpowers, Five Iron Frenzy
- The Canada Song, Five Iron Frenzy (it always makes me think of Cube)
and the list goes on.
BTW, Iblis, did you know that "My Immortal" will be in Neo Krysta reborn? I have it on my track list. _________________

Definitely. Blink 182 is pop. Anything you hear on the radio (or probably anything you have ever heard of) is not punk.

Blink 182, Sum 41, are ok, I just don't listen to the lyrics( actually the music drowns out the lyrics to), wut I'm saying is that I like the beat/music. I go to bed say 1:00am everyday, so am practically a walking sleeper, and the music is lively so it wakes me up and stuff. (I never really considered them as punk, just as like some Rock band. _________________ ...eh? |
