Give the thread a name change and we're good to go.

* A neat take on emphasizing the 'game' part of RPG.
Almost like if Timpoline wanted to combine with Darkmoore Dungeon.
Fun: 869
* It was! I am still of the opinion that the monk is the best one.
Scariness: 435
* There was some initial fear of trying to keep my guys alive to keep my money, but Dwain was pretty much the only one who really needed funds.
Chapter 6 is still impossible

*wat
Fun: 873
*There wasn't much interaction on the player's part, but it was certainly an enjoyable (?) experience.
Scariness: 435
*A few odd scenes, but nothing too terrifying past the warning title screen (hoping that it didn't turn out to be a screamer.)
Originality: 829
*What's currently present has some interesting concepts, but seems a bit lacking compared to the stuff planned in the Journal.
Fun: 538
*The animations were really neat, but it was kind of an empty dungeon crawl after I stopped stepping on spider-webs (They were shiny!).
Scariness: 870
*I actually had to plug in my headphones as I was playing because a roommate mistook the sounds for vampire porn (Sound FX were really convincing!)
Had a creepy vibe to it, but I was wondering for the longest time if there was anything in the game that I was allowed to beat.
###
I actually wanted to shape the two CYOA threads into some sort of horror game and submit those, but I got really lazy with the art and felt too ashamed to post them.
I still want to get back to them. eventually.
###
I have no idea what kind of grading scale we're supposed to be using. |

I've beaten it with Pyotr and Ansa. I recommend Pyotr. Bruce is probably the worst choice here, but I haven't tried him or Duwain.
SLEEPOVER
An interesting concept. Too abstract for its own good, but it's an interesting ride and has some impressive stuff.
Originality: ****
Bizarre
Fun: ***
Very little interactivity; more fascinating than fun
Scariness: ***
Some really disturbing stuff here
Scary Test
Tech demo, nothing to see here. Really hard if you don't figure out that you can get an ally, really easy after that. Using the ally's magic menu stops the script and forces you to restart.
Originality: **
Needs more content
Fun: **
Needs more content (but I liked the music)
Scariness: *
Not
ShiIDA
Best of the bunch, horror-wise. I wish there were more frequent save points. Great sound effects and animations, but I wish I could see where I was going more than once every three seconds.
Originality: ***
Your average stock horror stuff
Fun: ***
Felt a little aimless, perhaps partly due to the darkness
Scariness: ****
Excellent atmosphere and use of sound effects
Are we supposed to be voting for our own? Not really sure what I'm doing here _________________

Okay okay, here's my vote.
EDIT AGAIN: Oh, a ten-point scale? How did no one notice that before? I'll bet Gizmog just now added that.
Do You Want To Be A Hero?
I feel like this doesn't belong in a Halloween contest - a single Halloween-themed world has become standard in lots of games these days, so that doesn't count. Even so, it was a unique, fun experience. Also very frustrating. In fact very frustrating. Halloween-world, I'm convinced, requires you to die in order to heal. Even so, I cannot kill those bats for the life of me. I play as Bruce and I will not reconsider doing so because he's the best character.
Originality: 9/10
Depends on how you look at it. It's an amalgam of not-so-creative cliches, but it's the gameplay originality that wins me over.
EDIT: It just hit me like a brick, the gameplay is a parody of Dragon Quest.
Fun: 7/10
A fresh new experience that quickly became repetitive and difficult. World 5 felt like it should have been the final world, but it just kept going.
Scariness: 1/10
The same "fear of dying" thing Twinhamster mentioned, but I really don't think that's the same kind of scary this contest is being judged on.
(Notice: I may change this tomorrow if there's something genuinely creepy in World 6 and beyond)
Sleepover
After hearing all the hype behind this (and accidentally hitting ESCAPE after the sandwich "scare"), I walked into this game with a sour attitude. Is it creative? Yes. The idea (at first, anyway) was quite ingenious. The gameplay (or lack thereof) is top-notch too, lots of innovations here. The sudden genre shifts definitely kept me on the edge of my seat.
The quirky effects and attempts to scare me, however, did not.
Originality: 9/10
As I say, top-notch. This is obviously taking advantage of some highly advanced-- wait. You saw this coming, Charbile. You knew that it would turn into this kind of discussion. You know your audience too well.
EDIT: FOR CHRISSAKE YOU'RE READING MY MIND AS I LOOK AT IT IN CUSTOM
This entire game is nothing but some kind of Xanatos Gambit. I hate being played like a pawn. But, none of this will deduct from the Originality score. You win this round.
Fun: 2/10
It quickly became apparent to me that this was a mind-game, not an OHR game. At one point it felt like a drug trip, which was about the best part.
Scariness: 5/10
The sandwich scare? Not scary. The sudden map changes and bizarre naked humanoid possessing me? Scary. It has an even share of successes and failures when it comes to scaring, a good job overall. I do have one small complaint, though. The ending, it was a little...
Predictable!

Excuuuuuse me but it clearly says on the first page that
Quote: | As always, the entries will be judged in three categories, Originality, Fun, and Scariness on a scale of one to ten. |

Salteens???
Also, talked to Rya about rap and he thinks you miscredited Valkyrie (of Endless Evil fame) instead of Valkayree (of Endless Evil fame). Not that he's played it yet :( _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |

I can vouch for it being Valkayree, but I thought that's who it credited.

Man why does everyone think this. Pyotr 4 life, and failing at that, Ansa. Thinking of buffing Duwain, or maybe just his equipment, because yeah, he lags behind the rest.
PS. World 6 is it for now. Apparently people are having extreme difficulty with it. Apparently people are using Bruce. Did not test that level with Bruce or Duwain. Will try it soon.
(edit)
Bruce has a tough time through most of the level, but a really easy time versus the boss (thanks to his enormous HP pool). Ansa has an easy time through the entire level, then extreme difficulty with the boss. Pyotr is more balanced, and I suspect Duwain is too. Use Fire on the bats until you can reliably do ~30 damage with your fists. Magic is slightly more accurate anyway, and those bats are slippery devils. Mbarrier helps too, but by the time you have it, it's probably not necessary.
(edit again)
Duwain has a way easier time than Bruce with this level. I even spent about three minutes away from the computer -- that's a five-minute difference from the Bruce run. I think I'm going to increase Duwain's starting Guard by a point or two in the next release, but otherwise he's fine and certainly much better than I gave him credit for.
World 6, summarized: Pyotr/Duwain > Bruce/Ansa. Bruce and Ansa are my favorite characters, character-wise, but Pyotr and Duwain have the best skillsets. _________________

Baconlabs reported that bug (it's a wallmapping issue on that level that allows you to dismount anywhere). Given that you can achieve the same effect on any level via F11, it's not incredibly impressive. _________________

JSH, you're the first person to not make it out of that first area on their first try.
In which case you'd have about as much trouble navigating the remaining area.
Thankfully I left the debugging keys on. (F11) |

Voting's going to end on the 13th, so you've got about 72 hours left before we name the winner. I've been in sort of an M&M induced stupor and haven't even played all the entries yet, dang you gotta love leftover candy.
EDIT: I have it on good word from IRC that there's a few voters still playing the game. I hate to disappoint everyone who made such great entries, but the voting's gonna go on for a few days yet. (If you want to nag the delayer, his name is TMC) |

Why are IRC people so lazy? (ba dum tish) Been busy, sorry to anyone who cares (you shouldn't, but will.)
Scyree has this 'tom green' vibe to me, which I didn't like at first either. I think it fits in with the sociopath-ness of it all.
Salteens is just a band I heard on yo gabba gabba. Was thinking of including something with TMC and Giz, it didn't happen. Just like the difficulty selection mode, where if you use the bathroom too far from the sides and miss, you get easy, use it proper and you get normal, and if you dial in a 3 pointer, you want it hard. But it's more of an experience than game.
And yes, I swear to surlaw it is an OHR game, Baconlabs. Thought you guys like acid trips! Boy, i miscalculated THAT one... (i want to print out your originality review and hang it on my wall )
Shida
O: 10
(reminded me of splatterhouse in a way, forgot to mention that as one of the great creepy games of all time)
F: 5
(a fun ride, but I have to agree with JSH about that first room, you should remove/redo it)
S: 0
(i stand by my original sentiment in the thread)
Hero
O: 5 (please focus on P Tactics)
F: 5
S: ZERO times a million billion
Scary Test
O: 5 (I didn't get the joke!)
F: 1 (this game has so much potential, it's a strong 1)

EDIT: they must have joined forces!!
If I win, I want a "Beat Moogle1 in a contest 2009" |

I think that's a mistake. Rimudora probably won a different category. I want to say his game was Sundown (the vampire cowboy game) and mine was Scare Spree with RMZ, but I don't know. _________________
