THANK YOU JAMES PAIGE.
And yes, that's an imported photo because I suck. In my own defense, I'll say that about 50% or more of the pixels were changed by me, and the palates were worked on a lot.
Here's one I did all by hand. It took me forever, and doesn't even look that great. I was going for a satyr-like appearance for Daimon, but I may have gone a bit far with that.
[edit]
And OH MY GOD. The portraits show up in the status menu!!!! I can't believe it. YAY is all I can say. A lot. Can I change the position of it? I'm looking right now. I like where it is, but it might be nice to be able to place it between HP/MP and the gold counter. Still, not complaining. At all.
One thing though, the borders are exactly 50 x 50 measured from the outside, not the inside. Therefore sprites that are 50 x 50 cover it completely. If this might be fixed in a future release then I'll just leave mine alone, rather than shrinking my sprites by 2 pixels.
So let's see yours! _________________ 'I imagine that imagination is more important than knowledge, but I don't know.'

Your own sprite looks like something straight out of a cartoon.
Fantastic job with that.

I have one more, but I decided not to use it in the end.
And your Greek portrait reminds me of what I would see in DOS games. _________________

Thanks! I blew it up on purpose so you could see the pixels. Yours are also very nice.
What is that last one? I love how there's a question mark right above it. _________________ 'I imagine that imagination is more important than knowledge, but I don't know.' |

You said so much about those characters with those sprites. They're totally expressive, and I love them.
Oh and thanks, Bena! I wish I could take full credit for that one. I worked on it a lot, but it started out as a B/W photo. _________________ 'I imagine that imagination is more important than knowledge, but I don't know.' |

Human faces are failed by me.
After trying to read through some tutorials on face anatomy and the such, I decided to study how Fire Emblem portraits worked.
So I basically tried to emulate the style (And even copied colors :x) of the games and came up with:
I have no idea why his face came out so pissed-off-looking and have not had much success with lowering his eyebrows.
There are also numerous tricks that the FE portraits pulled off that I used without fully understanding why they worked (Nose and Eyes, in particular).
I also need to figure out how to set up my own color palette for these portraits.
[Edit]
Are masks supposed to have air-holes?
Is that how people breathe? |

The issue with using FE portraits as reference is that the colors were meant to be viewed on a GBA/GBA SP screen, so they're more bright and saturated than necessary for an OHR game. The lightest skin tone is almost white. I would go ahead and study FE portrait style, but use your own choice of colors.
Not to say they aren't done bad, but I think the color choices are pretty unrealistic for anything other than GBA.
As for your eye brows, it's probably because he has such slanted eyes in the first place and that your brow muscles are slanted as well, and that your eyebrows are drawn so strongly (which they don't really need to be. Just needs to be some brown colors and not your dark purple outline color in it). _________________

Now he looks sad. Like someone kicked his puppy. Into a beehive. And set it on fire. |
