(I hope this is the place to put this...)

This is the game I have started. I am further along in the making of it than this crappy DEMO.

I need help making my chatracter look better.(It is hard since he has no body!) HE IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE A SPHERACLE SHAPE TO HIS BODY PARTS!

I am very new to programing a game. The enimies look horrid. THe charactes are dumb looking to. I have all the colors just how I want them on the main character.

( I also need help making sprits for a walkabout and battle set for a orange collored cat person. (Think along te lines of sonic the hedgehog.)

Tell me what you think so far, and improvments I can Make.

For one thing, find a better file hosting site. (I strongly recommend Freewebs.com). The one it's currently hosted on is horrible.

"Type in the code and wait 30 seconds to download the file!"
BS!

Graphicly wise, I suggest you look in the Articles page. These will serve as guildlines to mold your game.

To start off, sprites should always be outlined. A black line surrounding the sprite is what helps prevent it from being a result of mindless doodling in the OHR graphics system.

Next, STAY AWAY FROM THE OHR'S DEFAULT GRAPHICS SYSTEM.
Instead, make your graphics with The Gimp, and MS-Paint. Check the OHR's Graphics page for more help:
http://www.hamsterrepublic.com/ohrrpgce/index.php/Graphics_Utilities.html

Good luck with your project.

i DONT UNDERSTAND ABOYT USING MSNPAINT FULLY! (oops) How can I use it so I can draw the picture realy big, then makeit smaller without tearing off half the picture.

( I made the cat pic. So never mind about that!

Why doI HAVE to use black lines?

If you're trying to scale an image to a smaller size, then MS-paint won't really help with that. When you're dealing with pixel art of this size, it's recommended to draw it in its final size.

If you're talking about minimizing a scanned image or something along those lines, then you can't really avoid that pixelized look, if that's what you're talking about. I don't really understand the "tearing offhalf the picture" part.

MS-paint (the paint program provided with Windows) is simply one of the easiest tools to use for graphics. Tiles are made 20x20 and lined up next to each other in a 320x200 24-bit .bmp format. These tiles can then be imported into the OHRRPGCE.

Well, the black outlines make for a more defined and less sloppy look.

For instance, if my hero is green, and he's walking on grass, then that's going to cause quite an eye-strain. If he had a black outline around him, then everyone's eyes would hurt less.

Should I make EVERY thing with MSPaint? If so, what size does the picture have to be for both walkabout graphics and battle graphics?

Twinhamster is retarded. Use the OHR's built-in graphics editor. Keyboard + spriting = sex.

;_;

Spriting...With the Keyboard?
I can understand using the keyboard for some precise touches, but to make an entire sprite with it? Why not use the mouse and free-hand it?

For now, I can only consider keyboard spriting the equivalence of old-people-sex.

I always turned away from using the OHR's built-in editor as a result of the FULLSCREEN DOS mode days, when the OHR would unpredictably lag and then double its speed. This resulted in bad sprite-fixing and map editing. But now that the OHR runs in a Windows Native port, I suppose it could be used for some decent art.

Anyhow, use whatever works best for you.

I', just going to stick with CUSTOM.EXE's version.

http://www.sharebigfile.com/file/12076/NTA-DEMO-V-03.rar.html

Here is Version .03

I guess it has about an hour or twos worth of play. Please review it and tell me wht you think.

Fixes I can do, ways to make look better. Ways to even out battles, ect.

(We are allowed to use monsters from the tutorial fiels right?)

The only way to fight with rune at first is to go walk around the desert area.

I am having a problem getting healing items to work right. I have made an herb(healing item) given it the attack (heal) switched its inner command to heal instead of dammage. It always heals little to none. How can I make it heal a fixed set of helth each time?

THX!

Well I'm guessing that the problem with the healing attack is in your 'damage=' section. If you want the herb to heal the about the same amount every time, you should do something like this:
1. Have the attack set to do 'pure damage' (instead of the default 'normal')
2. Have the base stat set to 100 (instead of the default 'atk', or whatever)
3. Set the extra percentage to change 100 to what you want
4. Have the target set to 'ally' and 'focus'
5. Have the 'cure instead of damage' bitset turned on, as you have
6. Have the 'usable outside of battle' bitset turned on, as you have

Is this understandable? All of these things should be in the attack editor in custom. As an example of #3, if you want the herb to heal about 60 HP every time, you should set the extra percentage to -40%. Make sense?
