All in favour of Paradox Lounge being re-opened, say "Aye!"

Aye!

That really doesn't change my opinion on the matter in any way. Even with a large turnout of users saying they want PL re-opened, I'm still going to direct you to the journal system.

I have no reason to open that board. It could be as simple as you not wanting to understand how the journal system works or you haven't taken the time to even look at it, but as far as I'm concerned, it does exactly what you're asking for, only in different format. Yes, it's called a journal. As Camdog stipulated, due to the pre-conceived concept of a journal, the discussions generated by a single journal would be heavily focused in one user's thoughts and interests. Through Watched Journals and the All Journals links, these threads are centralized in different ways, creating different virtual general discussion forums. They're self moderated, which means less headache for the CP staff. Through the use of private journal entries, you can make threads that only users in your buddy list can see.

It looks like a forum, it acts like a forum, but it's been tweaked to give more functionality than a standard forum. You want to have a discussion on why cheese is tasty, be my guest. But you're going to be the one dealing with the average user's response to said thread, not me.

The definition of General Discussion is far too broad to just be left unchecked. Users have different concepts of what's an acceptable topic of discussion. Your topic, your discretion. It's as simple as that. You have yet to give me a valid reason to open up the graveyard that was our old General Discussion forum.

Just because you treat it like a graveyard doesn't mean it is a graveyard.

You have not given sufficient reason to leave it closed either. However, I'll summarize:

Reasons to open PL:

* People want it (See Giz's rant)
* It keeps these things in plain sight, where it's easy to see along with everything else on the board.
* Someone new to the site may not even know that journals exist. The clues that point to it are scarse.
* Having such a common forum closed and locked will make new people go WTF?

Reasons not to open PL:

* SPAMZZLLEOOOL!L!L!L!11One. (come on, give us a little credit)
* You don't want to moderate it. (That's ok, you don't moderate very much else either. Promote a new sucker to moderate it.)
* You won't have anywhere to move deleted threads (...)

Or, if that doesn't do it, you can always ask the other admins, whose opinions, I'm sure, matter more than mine.
