I've been analyzing the time I spend maintaining CP, the cost of hosting, and the stress of being the web admin, and I've decided that it's just not worth the trouble. As of May 1st, my house in California will be reverting back to dial-up so I don't have to pay for 2 DSL connections (1 in California and 1 in Australia). As such, CP will be closing at the end of the month. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Inconvenience? I don't think that this can be classified as an inconvenience. More like SOMETHING VERY VERY BAD!

Not really. Think about what's actually in it for IM, then decide. I think IM is probably making the right choice since he doesn't have many ties to the community in the first place. I do respect him for running the site as long as he did, but it's a smidge ridiculous that he was paying his own money to do so.

That said, I know a couple of people who've already started planning a replacement site (besides Fyre's) so don't worry too much about this. Just make sure you get your games downloaded before the site closes.

this announcement comes too close to april 1 for comfort, especially because it might even be april 1 in australia right now. so i'll until IM says 'this is not an april fool's joke' i'll treat this as a 'i'll believe it when i don't see cp up' type thing.

That's what I was thinking. But... it's a reasonable argument...

this is definitely a joke, it's no coincedence (sp?) that april fools is so close (and probably already happening there).

besides, why would he have gone through the trouble of fixing the game list problem a day or so ago, if he was planning on ending the site?

This doesn't affect us at all. If we want to, we can just join a replacement site. Of course, plenty of us will have a lot of good old memories attached to this place, but life doesn't just end; it changes form.

So move on, come to a new forum if you want to, and know that you have an entire month left at CP. It's not happening today, guys. You have ample time to prepare.

Way to go, John (IM). Yer still a good man in my eyes. Carry on, brothers.

yeah, that is a bit strange, but what i was talking about was the download problem. i dunno if that has anything to do with it, but some guy was having trouble downloading games on internet explorer, and IM came in and said he fixed it.

unless he was just doing this so people would be allowed to download their games before the site goes down... eek. Crying

That's a shame IM, but thanks for running CP this long.

What are the replacement sites being worked on? Does anybody know if the gamelist/review list will be preserved?

probably not, thats why people need to start downloading there games before the site goes down so they dont lose them.

so people also might want to start getting their reviews saved as well.

note: oh my, a count down as well! (bottom of the page)

Hey, guys, what's the #1 April Fools' joke in this community?

Anyone old enough to remember when RPG Online "shut down"?

When OHR Otaku and O:OHR switched frontpages.

But April Fools has no relevance to this.

I think an April fool's joke is relevant to April Fool's day.
