Hmmm, i was just thinking but, a game based on the league of extrodinary gentlemen would be pretty good, I;m not sure about the movie but the comics are pretty farfetched and entertaining,...heheh Captain Nemo and the Nautilaus are sweet... Big grin

I generally dont like fangames for several reasons.

1. Fangames take away a originallity. You can may be original with the story, but the overall concept of it isn't your's.

2. It's hard to be creative using someone elses characters. It's limited to what you can do with those characters opposed to ones that you make that can do whatever you want them to do.

3. I like to see what people can do (including myself) with their own mind--fangame doesn't reflect the creator.

4. Fangames hardly ever turn out right because it doesn't capture the true feel of the original creator.

I could go on with the list, but I dont really feel like typing much (I never really do)

If you really do want to, by all means, go right ahead. I do think, however, it's better that you make something of your own. Most (not all)attemps by others at fangames (including outside the OHR community) pretty much suck.

...You just gave the same answer over and over... but I suppose you're right...

still, if rpeanut wants to create a fangame, I say let him/her/it.

A fangame can be good in certain circumstances. Yeah, I should be the one to say that. Rolling Eyes I'm assuming I'm the exception to this rule for obvious reasons, so I'll give out a few pointers.

1. Video games based off of movies have this historical tendancy to SUCK. ET and Superman for the Atari comes to mind.

2. If you're making a fangame based off a movie, don't feel you have to even focus on the story IN that movie. Take Lord of the Rings for example. Perhaps some people would be interested in seeing what the characters left back home are doing? Perhaps a farming/cultivation sim could work back in the shire? Rather than follow the adventures of Frodo and company, perhaps an alternative would be to play as Gollum, and show his side of the story? Gollum/Smeagol went through quite a few adventures just to get to Frodo and the Ring, and this all happens before the movie. Alternatively, why not focus on an Orc wishing to rise in the ranks of Sauron's armies? Or play as one of the nasgul in their search to hunt down the bearers of the ring? Remember the lesson that Dungeon Keeper taught us.... "Evil is Good". I'll grant LOTR has a lot more that could make a game out of it than LXG, but the principle is the same.

3. If you must make a fangame, do not overlook what other fangames HAVE done. ADD ORIGINAL CHARACTERS WHO MESH WITH THE PREXISTING WORLD. StarWars I worked perfectly fine without Jar-Jar Binks, but his presence has an effect upon the other characters in the movie (coincidentally he serves a point in EPII, by voting to create the future Imperial Army). A Startrek game where you play as a 'redshirt' also works, since the series is crawling with them. FFH would not have been a successful Final Fantasy OHR Remake without Seraph (or the Amano Bob titlescreen).

...Dude... Fangames (in the right hands) can be molded to be even better than what they a made from.

For example, (I'm sorry 'bout this advertisement) check out OOT2D.com, and you'll see that one intense Zelda fan can make what a whole production team could, except that it's taking him a whole friggn' year to get the first dungen.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that he's getting a little help from a lot of other slightly less intense fans.

I generally say, while a LOEG fangame may be cool, it's just not ment to be a turn-based RPG. Maybe if it's a Stealth/Mystery game, but not anything to do with the battle engine on the OHRRPGCE.

Bah, if you're going to talk about Captain Nemo and the Nautilus, then you should refer to 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is >: ( to him.

Not much of a reason to post.... you're not a moderator.

Revived threads don't have to be closed, just let them fall down the index again...

He had something he felt was important and relevant to add to this thread regardless of the thread's age. It's up in the rules somewhere that says you CAN do that, and I'm pretty sure every one of us here has done that at one point or another. If we had to create a new thread that covered the same goddamn topic every time a thread got over a month old, It'd be extremely difficult to keep track of.

I don't even know how many fucking times someone's started up a 'who wants to see me make a game' thread (albeit, it's generally the forum newbies who do it). In case you hadn't noticed, generally everyone who had a question about FFH started up their own thread to ask ONE question, got it answered, and that was the end of it. Same with Purgatory. Same with Walthros. God, if you look on Dlabs, there's a bajillion questions about 'how to play arfenhouse' that are all in seperate messy threads.

Hmm.. while I'm at it, I'm curious how effective a 'game help' forum would be, where we'd have a place to put game related questions such as 'where to go and what to do in X game'.

Back to the main point, I'd rather see someone add something valuable to an old topic, that create a new one on the same thing. And back to the point of this thread, if you're going to make a fangame, it would be prudent to study up on the lexicon of the game/movie/book universe before making your game. A megaman X game where the healing items are subtanks and the like has a better feel to it than an X game where the items are magical potions.
