Wow, I never post up anything on here. Anyway, anyone reading my LJ knows I just got back from an optometry conference/seminar/thing, and that means spending long hours in boring classes. What else to do? Draw!
Of course, drawing got boring (and not nearly time consuming enough. I mean, six hours of classes in a day? And that day is Saturday? Egads), so I decided to try something else: draw with pen! Yeah, you can't erase! Mwahaha!
That got boring too. So I decided to put my "artistic skills" (or lack thereov) to a test. I drew these two pics "dot art" style, in my ever crappy style, but I think they are pretty cool considering I never erased (its in pen), and I had to draw it...with dots (meaning it went much slower. I suck at drawing slow).
Oh yeah, files are pretty big.

There really more lines than dots, now, aren't they? Also, yes, her head is considerably messed up. |

The lines are where I got lazy (oops). Or a bunch of dots next to each other.
I think I poked a hole in the table after I was done. _________________ But enough talk, have at you! |

This is certainly a style of art you don't see a lot of. Mostly done in painting, I believe. Good work making the shapes, all except the girls head were pretty much dead on.
Don't be afraid to erase the side that is oblong and puff it out a bit more. The hair is what I think might have caused the wierd shape and all. _________________ Planning Project Blood Summons, an MMORPG which will incinerate all of the others with it's sheer brilliance...

This might as well have been a line drawing. Dots are very useful for shading of which there is not much, though I do see some. The girls torso is the best example of using the concentration of the dots to indicate depth and lighting. But the dots you use are mostly just the outline of the character. Not bad, just not the purpose of dots. Also, dots lend more to high contrast drawings which these are not. I did like the character design of the guy though. The girl was much more plain. Though the guy was kind of eyeless. My 2.0 x 10^-2 cents.
And you cheated on most of those "dots". They're more often "<" or "-" then "." CHEATER!

Dotting is almost exclusively done in pen. In painting, sometimes really short brushstrokes are used, like putting dots on canvas, but the methods and effects are entirely different. _________________ My name is...

Both stippiling (pen) and Pointilism (paint) are shading techniques. Since shadowiii didn't shade at all, and just drew really terrible anime grils with dotted lines as a gimmick, his drawings can't really be compared to either of those. _________________

Yes, but in pen, you imply shading through the concentration of dots in a certain area, whereas in painting, it is typically done through color and optical blending of colors. This is not always true though. Basically, pointillism exists because when they blended colors physically on the canvas, the colors were dulled. They're similar but not inherently the same. _________________ My name is...
