Well that was delayed Hunter. Would have expected that earlier but...

Just to head off and kill any future posts to further add to this discussion about whether they're ripped or not, I believe we've sufficiently proven that they're not stolen, rather just oddly similar by some fluke of coincidence. For one, they have more contrast than mine, and even Shadowiii said he made some similar. Showing the comparison of subtle differences between the two sprites should have been sufficient enough an apology for most people, since it's more time consuming to take a screenshot, increace the size 300%, upload it in a format that won't blur, then post no less than twice to say they're probably not derived from my own, THEN go on to say they're quite good, and with just a little more time he'd be better than me. In fact, from my perspective, not only did I apologize, but the evidence I provided actually DEFENDED his claims that they're original. To quote some guy from the animanics: "what the hell do you want from me?".

Wait, if I'm defending his position and have apologized already... then what is this arguement about about anyway? Yes at first I believed they were. Then I took the time to look in closer detail, which is nigh impossible at that size. Then I showed for everyone involved they were different. Then I said though they were similar, two people can come up with something independantly of eachother that looks almost identical (I even mentioned a recent example the community should be aware of). I believe I've put to rest my own accusation of stealing, closed the book on it, and apologized enough. I goofed up, I'd like to move on, and I'll be damned if anyone else jumps in and says OMG U STEL U BSTRD DIEPLZKTHX or something to that effect. In fact I'm going to do what I should have done right now...

Xaero, you are good enough with your graphics to fool even myself, and are better than I was 5 years ago when I began with the OHR. I apologize if I've hurt your feelings in any way, and hope this won't cause you to think any less of your abilities or talent.

Nice sprite analysis, Fenrir. At first glance, I thought the roof tiles were ripped too. (and I think Hunter Green was just making a joke, which is a dangerous thing to do in a discussion forum sometimes ;)

The similarities between the tiles is interesting. In regard to the "infinite shakespearean monkeys" comment, it is important to consider the fact that monkeys are NOT perfect random number generators, not even close.

In a 20x20 tile, there are 400 pixels. Each pixel can be any of 256 different colors If you do the math, you can see that there is an absolutely astronomical number of possible combinations. So simple statistical logic says that for two people to independantly draw the same maptile is virtually impossible.... except that when we draw maptiles we (hopefully) aren't drawing random pixels of random colors, we are actually trying to make tiles that look like things. There are only so many ways to draw a slanted grey tile roof corner and make it fit properly in a 20x20 grid.

So, in conclusion, monkeys with typewriters are fun to talk about, even when the thread of discussion has otherwise been run into the ground :)

Yeah, I'm sorry if I offended you too. I was trying to prevent the thread from becoming a sprite ripping flame war by making fun of it, but it probably was already resolved.

Awesome tiles, ripped or not, the hero is really a bit to blue but for me the most outstanding thing is the trees and ground in the snow forest.
and hey they could be uniform if it was some fancy royal place with a gardener shearing the trees... just my opinion

Since this has become quite a long arguement between usefull posts, (although entertaining) I must be brave and take up the task of gathering the necessary information for you. In organizey fashion. Huh?

Fix/Look at: Hero grafics. Npcs, and perhaps Walkabouts in general which may not compliment the background (Map tiles)

Don't bother touching: Map tiles. They are fine right now.

In the end we all appologized and made up. Now on to reform.
(Happy end)
