Hey, I've had a hard time finding any sound effects that are for surprises and shocks in midi format, so is there anyone who can create a few? As you would assume, it's for my horror survival game, and if anyone knows a place where I can get some or are willing to create a few, I'd be very happy. _________________ http://www.castleparadox.com/gamelist-display.php?game=750 Bloodlust Demo 1.00

Sound effects that would be appropriate for adding to the element of surprise! to a game. Like, walking down a dark hallway and then suddenly seeing a monster pop out, it would need a sound effect to convey the shock and surprise of seeing the monster pop out. Is that helpful? _________________ http://www.castleparadox.com/gamelist-display.php?game=750 Bloodlust Demo 1.00

Thats difficult with midi, maybe if you have a huge root + 7th chord over 7 octaves with maybe a semiquaver speed, it might provide a shock? _________________ Moogle no longer owes prizes. |

Some code for WAV sound effects is already in the latest WIP version, and it would be great to get some good testing of it before Ubersetzung.
Sound effects are always going to be difficult with MIDI, as there are only a few midi instruments that sound "effecty" |

it's easier to write that kind of shock or scary music if you don't think on a tonal scale. like forget chords entirely, and work only in intervals. like, build upon a sudden quick progression using tri-tones (diminished 4ths) and minor seconds to give it that eerie feeling, have a few really deep notes that resound, and the rest really high pitched. the dissonance created by those kinds of intervals that far appart work really well!
i think i can manage some sounds like that tho and send u a sample of what i can do. would that be ok? i just sent one to your email address at gmail. lemme know what you think.
Oh and to James Paige, are the WAV files you speak of going to be attachable to attacks and such for battles? just wondering _________________ "My dearest friend if you don't mind, I'd like to join you by your side, where we can gaze into the stars, and sit together now and forever" |

I have a couple of MIDIs that emulate the storm sound rather well. I will upload it later. It's great to see that a version with sfx is coming along... however, I do hope that it will work flawlessly on the game I'm working. I'm still working on a nightly build of quarternion since the newest nightly keeps giving me noop errors for some reason.
On another note, MIDI is pretty limited in terms of sfx, but it's not all that bad. I seem to recall that early Sierra games use MIDIs as sound effects. _________________ "I am Collins.
