Hi!

It was some time since I last posted here. I have a simple complain of the grading system of the reviews. Here goes:

Currently, the four categorys 'Graphics', 'gameplay', 'storyline', 'music' and 'enjoyment' together make up a total grade which is supposed to sum up the total quality of the game.

Now, the very purpose of a (free) computer game is to make people enjoy it, right? And the graphics, gameplay etc. is what they enjoy. So the defenition of a high-quality game should be a game with a high 'enjoyment' grading. So what I say is that the enjoyment grade shouldn't be one of the grades that make the total grade, it should be the total grade.

Example: A game has poor graphics (E) horrible music (F) pretty bad storyline (D), but the fantastic gameplay (A) compensated for all this and makes the player enjoy the game anyway (B). Now, since this game is enjoyable it should have the total grade B. Not the D- or whatever the current system would say.

What do your think?

I believe that the reviewer gives the game a final grade regardless of the other grades. What I'm saying is that I don't think that the Graphics, Music, etc. are used for anything at all (other than readers getting an idea about the game). But I might be wrong.

I agree with this to a good extent. The final grade is certainly likely to be (and definitely should be) most highly influenced by the enjoyment score.

Oh, can the reviewer himsel decide the overall grade? In that case, my post was pretty pointless...

Code:
Current:
Graphics=E=2
Music=F=1
Story=D=3
Gameplay=A=6
Enjoyability=B=5
Total Points=21/30=70%=C-

Well,what if we get the review system to have a weighted average according to what the revewer considers most important, like this (to use Leo's Example):
Code:
Leo's Idea (assuming that he weights all others evenly):
Graphics=E=2*1=2
Music=F=1*1=1
Story=D=3*1=3
Gameplay=A=6*4=24
Enjoyability=B=5*4=20
Total=54/66=81%=B

Or we could just keep it as it is, letting the reviewer determine the final grade.

Yes, I misunderstood the grading system...
