Do any of you know where I can find some public domain Midis? I've tried search after search after search, finding twice as many "These are NOT public domain" sites as "Use at your own risk" sites. The rest either have broken links or use mp3s.

As much fun as it is making fangames, I can't use ripped music for any of my original games, seing as I plan to be able to make SOME money off them. I like the ones that come with CUSTOM, but I hear everone else is tired of them.

I can't compose. If you want proof, try my endurance dungeon. I used my original music to be cruel.

Also, I've seen quite a few "Original Soundtracts" on the gamelist, but most of those seem to say something to the effect of "I posted this to taunt you and you can't use these without the flaming scorn of the community." I'm probably just reading too much into that, though.

Also, I've heard a battle victory music that sounds NOTHING like the FF Victory music, Victory3, or anything else that comes to mind, in about ten or eleven different OHR games all done by different authors. Could anyone tell me what it is, if it is public domain, and if so, how I can obtain it?

Thanks in advance, on all counts.

I'd suggest looking for Classical composers. Chopin, Elgart, Mozart, Beethoven, etc. If you've got a classical radio station in town listen to it, especially for Marches and things. Those work wonders in RPGs, and most of them are in the public domain by now.

You could try using file sharing programs such as KAZAA or WinMX. As long as you have a title you could probably find what your're looking for. Unfortunatly, you don't know exactly what you are going to get, or what quality. If you can find a public domain site, I recommend that over these programs.

Thanks, Giz. I was trying "Pubkic domain mid." But when I tried "Mozart midi" the eightth link was good, and brought me to Bach and Beethoven as well.

Actually, I typed it right in the search engine. I usually catch that sort of thing before posting.

Well, really, you will have trouble finding results with that typing.

Edit: Oh, sorry. I didn't see that part about that you wanted original music. The ones at that topic are ripped...

I've been thinking about making a PD music selection (not that anyone would use it since I'm not very good.) Would you be interested in that? I know it would be a drag to have to use a bunch of Mozart and Bach (<--ugh) in your game. Considering that my game is moving so slowly, it would give me a chance to compose for a game again (if you want to say again, as Verdimea was more a pile of vomit than a game.)

"Don't knock Bach, he was a genious."

For his time, yes...
For this time, no...

I'm not saying he wasn't important, it's just we've evolved too much to really appreciate him like he was during his time.

And really, do you want Bach in the background of your game? I can think of rare situations were Bach's 16th century polyphony style can really be that effective.

But of course that's a matter of personal taste. I would rather listen to Prokofiev or Mussourgsky any day over Bach.[/quote]

Even for our time he is a genious, true, no Beethoven, but (for me) all you need to do is listen to Air or any of his violin concertos and you'll see. Then again, I am an instrementalist, so, eh.

One of the games I'm working on uses Bach music. Some of his music is actually quite useful as battle music. Of course, I'm really into retro stuff.

Also, I found some public domain BAMs on O:OHR. They were listed once somewhere in the high letters. And then, apparently, someone else repackaged them with the default files, and one ripped from an older Hamster Republic game.

And yes, I was being extemely defensive. As stated earlier, I have a tendancy of reading into things. I probably should have just edited it quietly. After reading some more old posts I realized that he does that to everyone.
