Update time! Vikings has been updated to the latest Xocolotl nightly!
Somewhere, hidden in the game are "destroyed worlds", representations of other games that the forces of darkness have already erased from existence. Here's part of one of them, the last bits of tangible ground being devoured by... ...something. Where have I seen these things before? Hmm.
A battle with some unusual enemies in the destroyed world. Are those "shape" men?
I felt it was also appropriate at some point to show the OHRRPGCE can pull off "realistic" graphics too, provided the palette is expansive enough to cover them. Fortunately, having a shot of the blue marble was great to test this, and better yet is public domain. I'm not sure if it meshes well with the rest of the game's cartoony graphics, but it's a change of pace and fitting for the scene (you are after all, definitely not on Midgard anymore). These extra scenes also have a lot of tongue-in-cheek humor to them. Notice the spaceship at the top?
At some point, your ability to teleport from location to location is SIGNIFICANTLY upgraded. This is one of the game's secrets that isn't fully revealed how to do it, but hopefully you've been checking your inventory as the story progresses?
Borders! Who doesn't like borders? |

Yay!
I love the destroyed worlds thing. And the Langolier!
Are there more side-quests to unlock skills? I have to say that those were really fun and rewarding. Much better than a plain old level-up.
You have me thinking of doing the same for Wandering Hamster. |

Oh yes, there will be MANY side-quests, one for each skill I'm hoping. I'd say that the majority of the game's content will specifically be extra material that isn't directly related to the main quest. I've always been fond of how the game structure of Final Fantasy 5/6 is set up - how you have a fairly linear game world for the first half of the game (with a few sidequests), then it's much more open, allowing you to basically complete extra quests and story scenes to round out your party for the last battle.
As for Wandering Hamster, I liked being able to buy some of Bob's skills too, it made me feel like I was getting something before I was supposed to! Maybe he should learn some golf-ball smacking attack from a certain mini-game? |

Update time?
Every time a new hero joins your party, you get an item that can bring up a backdrop for that hero. It's apparently smart enough to even know what you named your heroes! And it tells you in no uncertain terms what kinds of things they can and can't equip!
And what are these?

Oh, that symbol is a ROBE!
For ten years I've thought that it's a monster face (angular eyes and a toothy mouth). _________________

My only complaint is that Bob more resembles a dog than a Hamster to me. _________________

Lingerie aside, and its mysterious properties as a hat (Freki?), I have discovered that Olaf somehow starts with a SWORD in his head. I'm not going to fix this - instead I'll make a scene where if you don't remove it, the other characters point it out. Regardless, here are the newer portraits. The colors are off, given that they are the default import palettes, but they look fine in-game.
and a bonus!
