Does anyone know of any applications that can generate .MIDI-type music, but with a concept similar to the old NOTATE? I used to be able to create some good .BAM-type tracks when I used that program, but unfortunately I can’t get NOTATE to run on my system (using Windows® Vista v. 6.0 (Build 6001: Service Pack 1)). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

James should make a "NOTATE" for composing midis. That would be so awesome.

I was just wishing there was a MIDI notate. I've tried using this one MIDI-making program, but there's just too much for me to have to do, especially since I'm on a laptop.

Or at least make some sort of BAM2MIDI thing...

If you compose BAMs and then convert them to MIDI you might need to use a MIDI editing tool to change the instruments - you might be able to do better than bam2mid

Don't Notate (and the DOS OHR versions) work under 'VDMSound' on Vista?

I would love to make a Midi editor with a user interface in the style of notate. I have never found a midi editor that I was comfortable with.

As for making notate run on Windows Vista, if VDMSound doesn't work, you can try DosBox

By the way, the user interface for Notate was (very loosely) inspired by the music composer mode in Mario Paint

And remembering that caused me to search and find UnFun's Mario Paint Composer, which looks quite amusing-- although it doesn't seem to support anything like midi export :(
