How did you play V? As far as I know, it can only be emulated with a translation patch. That's the reason I don't feel too bad about having played that ROM - its the only way I can play the game. Anyway, VI is also an SNES ROM - same story for me. VII was on Playstation, and it honestly was not a very good game. I had fun while playing it, but I don't think I'll ever want to replay. VIII is on Playstation 2.
PS: I've been going back and forth, and I can't decide whether I like IV, V, or VIII best. Those are my top three almost certainly. I just finished VIII though, and I have a feeling it may go gradually down. V and VI had really interesting stories, I thought. _________________ My first completed OHR game, Tales of the New World:

o wait, help me out there... I know there is one where you play a hero behind is father in the intro, another where u play parallel stories and ultimatly another with the dream world... and I've confused all numbers there too...
And yes, rom for me too, and a pretty decent translation patch too... i dont feel much shame for using the rom to be perfectly honest. Every game I ever truly liked aside from one of the dragon warriors, I bothered to have a copy of... |

Wait, are you saying that you have played most of your favorite games as ROMs without ever owning the actual game? If this is the case, well, I can only say that I strongly disapprove. It is a terribly unappreciative way to enjoy the product of someone else's work.
In response to your questions (your wording is very confused and I can't tell exactly what you are saying), I'll just list from DW IV up:
IV was the one split up into Chapters;
V was where you began as a child following your father around;
VI was where there were two worlds, dream and real;
VII was where you bring back islands from the past;
VIII was where you are going around trying to retrieve a stolen sceptre _________________ My first completed OHR game, Tales of the New World:

Ok yes, sorry, then I played IV V VI... There are only few games I initially played on the snes (Chrono, all the FF including mystic quest, lufia I and II, etc). For the Dragon Warriors, I only realized they existed on the snes much later (I did play Dragon Warrior I and II on nes though). Most of the games I've played as rom I ended up buying for my console though (unless they weren't good that is) because I prefer the console feeling. The dragon warriors though, I was unable to find copies of, and so, I can't say I've owned either copies of these games at any time. But are there really? I mean, as you said, I don't think they were even released over here so I don't feel bad about that.
As for the idea of playing games as ROMs before buying them? I understand several people abuse this process, but whenever a game is truly good (and for that matter, if I care to beat it) I almost instantly decide on buying it. That's illegal, but I think it is also made of a certain part of judgement. I didn't expect to be approved either, you're free to tell the authorities if you think I'm giving the market a real problem, but if I were you, I'd start pointing at people who NEVER buy, and for that matter, those who get off bittorrent networks.
ROMs are legal if you own the original card, and in some countries, even if you don't. Which is odd. I believe the USA have an issue with legalizing them at all is that it? Well I'm not a stater, so this solves part of the problem... |

You can definitely get III on one of the handhelds, I'm thinking its Gameboy Advance. Its definitely pretty good, you should try it if you never got to play it on the NES. V and VI were never released, I'm pretty sure. IV was released on NES, but I don't know if you can find copies anymore. I've also heard that it was going to be re-released on some platform, but I can't remember which.
Also,

I really hope you did not mean this the way it sounds in English. In English the comment sounds both self-centered and arrogant. When we use the phrase "you can do X, but if I were you", its almost always taken as a put down, as in "if I were in your place, I would be doing Y, therefore I am obviously much smarter than you/your concerns are petty compared with mine".
Also also, in my mind, the issue about ROMs should not really be a legal one. It should be a moral issue, and so it shouldn't matter what the laws are regarding it. _________________ My first completed OHR game, Tales of the New World:

I said the "if I were you" refering to "my personnal opinion is that" and not "you should do that".
I never played dragon warrior III I believe...
and V and VI weren't released as you said, so accordingly, there was no console game I played, didn't buy and that was released here. Except perhaps E.V.O. search for eden which I've played for about 10 minutes... |

Okay then, I think I just misunderstood what you meant. In my defense, I think everyone will agree that your handle on English is not always great (but for a non-native speaker, I think you do pretty well for the most part).
Anyway, to try to be more positive, I think that there have been some threads in this design discussion forum that would interest you a great deal JARS, judging on your own threads and comments. You should give them a read. Just to start, I thought Moogle1's Battles thread had some good discussion, as well as my threads on party size, silence, and luck. There was another thread about the roles of characters and support characters, I think it was djfenix's, or maybe there were two such threads...? I guess I'm just saying that you might enjoy going down this game design forum and checking out some of the earlier threads, since you're sort of new here and seem to be interested in these kinds of things. _________________ My first completed OHR game, Tales of the New World:

lol thanks
although I am "remotely" new only...
Most people don't like threads being revived so I didn't bother checking the other pages... but I will do so.
I find it funny though that, with all such threads ive started in the last couple weeks (most of which having about 5 pages of posts) you write this in the only superactive thread that i did NOT start Sorry, just found that quite amusing for some reason. And I'll search for that djfenix thing and the moogle1 too (I've already read through yours)...
And now... back on topic, if there IS one? |
