I keep on thinking I'd be best served to work with someone from here... besides, people on pixelation are rather snobbish, and my post really went unnoticed... I mean c'mon, maybe its not interesting for them, but they could tell me why? OHR is far more community oriented for that, people comment...
Also, I don't want a slave artist, and that's how they seem to want to work as in, you pay me and I do stuff, but that's not what I want. First, this is volunteer work (with potential compensation if possible) but this is also a creative input...
I've posted on two pixel forums already, and I haven't got any single replies. Can't say the same from here?
Some people complain OHR isn't as active as it used to be, but brace yourselves boys (and gals, sorry Komera and Lucier!) 'cause the "few" people left give a damn about lots of stuff.

That is what concept art stands for actually... most of what you'll see from this guy will be his walkaround... and the beast underneath is a minor boss in the course of the game. Semi-boss actually (seeing as how the idea of sub-bosses increase combat's linearity break while not necessarily increasing difficulty dramatically)

besides, I am offering my musician services... I may not be that great, but I've heard there is massive needs around here. Onlyoneinall kinda commisionned me of volunteer musical works for his upcoming game which I haven't gotten around to do yet (mostly because I am re-structuring my studio and am faced with some university rush)

Bandwitdh is limited so it may be down from time to time, but bear in mind the guitars were a 1 minut improvisation to make it more ambient-like.
This song was commisionned for Project:Orion a sideproject of our graphical artist. But this is the kind of quality of music our game will have (bear in mind that the demo uses midi which is obsolete)

Friend didn't totally leave, he just left in the sense that I did (that he's not going to make Ohrrpgce games anymore). He might still post here occasionally, who knows. But right now he's back in Indonesia and has very limited internet access.

He is also very busy with work, so that would also cut down chances of him dropping by.

Heck. You'd be lucky to get anybody to help you out.

Around here, maptiles are nothing more than a burden.
None of us enjoy making them, but we must because they are necessities to any project.

For instance, whenever I finally convince myself to get to stop playing MMORPGs and start working, I look at my list of what to do and what do I find at the very top? Bingo! MAPTILES
Upon seeing this, I usually turn away and continue playing MMORPGs;
however, every once in a while, I'll feel that I've delayed progress for far too long and actually make two or three tiles, then continue playing some MMORPG.

...If it's a small map, I can probably squeeze you somewhere into my list of things to do.

Sadly not small tilesets... we're talking about 500 tiles! *jumps in shock*. And I've asked one of the other directors about the usual financial related data for such work (with relative quality) and I'm expecting some results by tomorrow to see whether I'll end up raising a budget for that which, I must admit, I'd hate doing... not precisely because it would be costly(but indeed, at the moment, and for the first time in years, I'm broke) but I hate to truly "commission" someone to a job because the input becomes sort of dead... this game has an opposite goal really so it can't quite work this way...
My other option is as follows... I'm willing to trade "decent" .mp3 music that I make for the art I need (I'm about sure it MAY suit certain artists)... and overall, I'm tryna get to beta-test and review games so that I get a "better" name around here... I don't do exactly do it all out of pure enjoyment and fun, there's no hiding it, but I think it can show how willing I am to make effort to earn this much needed help.
I wouldn't have this problem if I were good at tiling, of course, which I'm sorta tryna train myself with on a parallel basis, and I've asked a couple of close friends, but their personnal lives are truly screwing all the projects they wished to undertake lately...
And that's beside the point. I've seen tiles around here much better than what I've seen people sell out there... The OHR started without the import function, and though it was later implemented, it seems as though it was already in the subcounscious of most ohr that they'd have to make everything by themselves which seemed to polish some people's skills to a very great extent... Can't say I took that curve myself as far as gfx are concerned, sadly... Sad...

I've some experience in the independent game community (reading indiegamer.com etc.) so I can say that the usual going price for 2D art for independent games is on the range of 200$ to 2000$, so expect something around that.

...Or you could take the cheaper and more fulfilling path of investin a week or two into cramming Pixel Art tutorials into your skull.

To get to the level of Orchard-l/Friend would require more than a few weeks, but yeah, that's probably the better idea. If you believe in the game enough, it's worth learning new skills to finish. Unless you have a grand just laying around that you don't have anything else to do with of course (and some people do, just not most).

believe it or not, I have. In the design forum, check for a thread named Jordy, there, I have posted an image of my tileset for an ohr project. Take a quick look at the grass. That's, sadly, the best I can come up with. It's much better than a lot of grasses I've seen, but its not goo enough for this project... not just on a personnal expectation, but it just doesnt fit qith the quality level of the characters, which is something I want to avoid as much as possible.
Also, yes, 200-2000$ seems like a correct range, but I would like to estimate it more closely tied to the project's current needs (and gauge them in regard of this) until I can see whether 400$ can round up the necessary resources for this game. Assuming coding, and most graphical and musical aspects are already in process and free of charges, this leaves me only with maptiles to complete (I even have the mappers on board), so this should restrict the needs... I want to see how much left there could be for say, 500 tiles... Whats the average price for one tile anyway?
