It wouldn't hurt to make it just one file, I don't think it's that big of a deal to let players see how the rest of the story is going. In fact, I think it'd be kind of necessary, just in case one of the chapters gives no hints as to any of the chapters before then.
Unless of course, it's the point of the contest to make the games really random. _________________

The chapters can be as random as they please.
Everything the game makers need to know will be included in the introductory brief that both teams will use for their series.
This way, the protagonist, antagonist, and basic quest is all layed out, preventing the final boss from changing each chapter. |

Oh, right, the common starting point. This makes things a lot easier, in fact: the starter file can contain a lot of graphics that the players can use to populate their games. It's still nice if they add things on to it, but it resolves the issue of one contestant working a lot more on the game than everyone else.
Anyway, my point with the RPG bit is that it's impossible to transfer character information between RPG files except if you require the player to rename the save file, which is tacky at best. So if your character gets to level 10 in chapter one, he's starting over in chapter 2, Mega Man style. This isn't a huge issue, but it's inconvenient all the same. _________________

Well, if you're going to start off in a different game, then it should be okay to start off at level 0.
Just to get things started, I'll have a few sprites and tiles made and the first chains of the list can continue from there. I'll provide a brief when teams are selected.
How many people should we wait for? 5 on 5?
[edit]:I've got a basic batch ready, but I don't like the idea of having everybody use the same collection of files. A week should be long enough to make a tileset and one or two maps.
[Edit II]: To prevent any unfairness to the amount of work that the first guy'll have to do, I'll start *both teams* off with a *common* introduction chapter. |

I don't know, I think one RPG file would be better... not only is it more convinent for players who might want to play it, it'll also keep things together. We should just designate like, a certain version of custom to use and the RPG file, and make certain of those things standardized to make it easier. _________________ http://www.castleparadox.com/gamelist-display.php?game=750 Bloodlust Demo 1.00

If we're just aiming to have a little fun with making a community game, then we should be making individual files. Using a single file would lean more towards the let's-make-a-real-in-depth-game-where-everything-fits-together-perfectly type of style.
Personally, I really enjoyed the random scenes found in the Roulette comics. It's this aspect that I wanted to combine with the OHR.
[edit]: But I'll settle for whatever gets the most people to join in on this thing. |

| I think Twinhamster's idea suits the nature of the contest the best. Besides. with one file, there's the risk of ruining someone else's work. I say multiple RPG files. |

All right. Just to make sure about the people who are participating, PM me if you want to join and I'll see what I can set up.
