For a while now, I've been sequencing midis from the cult-classic game, Doukutsu Monogatari (Cave Story for just about everyone but me).

I've done a fair number, and I've decided to share them, as what good are they sitting on my HD, and sitting in vgmusic.com's new-files folder for the rest of eternity?

I have yet to upload them to CP, I've just FTP'd them to my site for now. I'll upload them properly when it's not 2 am.

Note: These are listed in roughly chronological order, in terms of when I made them. Or, rather, how Windows lists them when I sort by date. If I tweaked a song, it'll show up later in the list for no real reason.

Also Note: They are set up for proper looping, a la RPG Maker and the OHR.

Charge - Second-final boss theme, quick paced, my first sequenced midi. Not bad, all in all.

Zombie - Plays during the cutscene right before the final boss. It sounds... harsher than the original... not my favourite of the batch.

Access - Plays during the initial cutscenes. A retarded monkey could sequence this.

Balrog - Heh. Balrog's theme. I love this one, and could listen to it for hours (and have!). Tweaking the instruments in the "rock" sections was a pain, and even now, I think that it would sound better as [Lead 1/2 | Electric Guitars] (whichever one I haven't chosen now)

Eyes of Flame - Mmm, yes. I'd have to say this is my favourite song in the whole game. This is the 2nd boss theme, and I'd honestly say that I like the midi better than the original. I did a tiny bit of arranging, to make use of the higher-quality instruments, and I think it came out really well.

Last Battle - Final Boss, standard fare. I think it sounds best in the beginning. Around the end of the loop, it sounds a bit awkward, with the harp going on at the same time as the melody. But, it picks up right at the end as it prepares to loop.

Running Hell - "Welcome to Hell". I think this song really drives that point home, with the harps going constantly. The only real failing I think this midi has is the beginning. Trying to reproduce that "swishing" sound at the beginning of the song is nearly impossible in General Midi... Alas, this is the best I could do...

Seal Chamber - Ballos' theme. This would sound awesome if it were more echoy... but, still, it's strangely soothing while still filling you with a sense of foreboding...

Escape - I like this song as well. The beginning part with the trumpet is good, IMO; I think I put the tremelo effect to good use. So, I guess GM isn't entirely lacking...

Cemetary - This is a strangely addictive song, although it doesn't hold a candle to the original... Well, maybe it does. But, I still like the original more.

Oppression - Ah yes, the Core battle, the climax of the plot. I tried to capture the essence of the original, but I don't think I did do so good a job. Still, a fun song.

Gravity - Regular Boss battle, I like it just as much as the original, and unlike many of my songs, it doesn't really have any awkward moments. (sidebar: I distinctly recall doing this before Oppression... stupid Windows)

Quiet - I did this just a few weeks ago on whim. It's the song that plays when you return to the Mimiga Village later on in the game. All in all, a strangely disconcerting song. Alas, the Ocarina clashes with the Bass at points, creating a really harsh feeling... maybe I should've used a whistle or something...

Hero's End - I forget exactly where this song plays, but I believe it's one of the credits. In any case, I did this one a few hours ago, after feeling the urge to sequence another song. I like it a lot. Overall, it's not my favourite song, but I think it sounds much better as a Midi, so I'll give it a chance anyway Happy

Ok, that's it. As a bonus, here is Organya Viewer, which will allow you to hear all the songs in their original format. I'm throwing it in mainly so you can hear how bad a job I did while wasting my time doing these midis (*artist's angst!*)

Sweet. I was wondering if MIDI versions of these songs existed. Some are better than others, but the quality is good overall and the effort alone (in this regard) is commendable.

I uploaded all the songs to CP, and normally I'd link to them. However, I am unaware of how to summon a list of all songs by one author (the link in my profile is not how)... so... for finding them, you're on your own.

Very nice. I had to hand place the notes for the tracks myself when I was working on the doukutsu arrangements. Nice to see you've made some midis for it. You should upload it to vgmusic or something.

For those of you wondering what the fuck these guys are talking about, the game is called (in English) "Cave Story". It's totally rad and totally free. There's no excuse to not play it. Get it here.

Oh, I have. Check around page 20 or so, you'll find a couple. They're scattered about.

Some pretty good songs here. Never really heard much of the game, though I have seen the MIDI's on vgmusic before (where else does anyone get ripped music for games? heh...)

The link for "Seal Chamber" is mistyped, though. Nothing too bad though, just missing a 20 after the %.
