The DS has a similar problem to the GBA: the screen isn't big enough. The DS screens are 256x192, the GBA is 240x160, OHR is 320x200. The only handhelds that can run OHR in its native resolution are the GP32, GP2x (both 320x240) and PSP (480x272). The DS could run it sideways across both screens, of course. And there are plenty of PDAs and phones that could manage it.
It would take some messing about to get a GBA version, perhaps to the extent of replacing the graphics with smaller versions (ie draw a set of 20x20 tiles for the PC, and 16x16 tiles for the GBA), but I don't think the problems are insurmountable. If we rescaled to 0.8 of the current size that would give us 16x16 tiles and a total screen size of 256x160, which means we'd lose half a tile off each side.
Any such development is a long way down the road, though. It's entirely possible that the next generation of handhelds will be out by then and no-one will remember the GBA. |
