The summer after high school, I believe. That would be 2001. I had been wanting to make an RPG for quite some time (since middle school, really), but of course did not know anything of computers. This strange web-like object had been appearing on computers however, and I gradually came to understand (during high school) that one could effectively steal (that is, take for free) things that were offered as such. So I thought, I wonder if anyone would offer a computer type thing that helped you to make an RPG?
I don't remember exactly what I searched for, but the OHR was high on the return list, and featured what seemed to be a genuine sense of humor, at the least. I read the entire tutorial before downloading the actual engine that would have let me actually use the functions being described.

It was a few years ago. I always liked creating my own games for the compooter. There were programs like ZZT and the Games Factory that I loved and still do today, yet they all left something to be desired. I wanted to make RPGs. I tried RPG Toolkit, but it kinda sucked. I tried RPG Maker 2000, but I couldn't get it to work right on my computer. A few dozen other engines later, I came across a site called "dosgames.com" or something. To my rapture they had a game construction section, filled with DOS game construction engines like ZZT and Adventure-Something. Anyways, I noticed OHRRPGCE lower down the list and was happy to discover it made RPGs. Joy! I downloaded Ozarks or something near that and began pumping out crappy games for the world to enjoy. I remember the first game I downloaded from Castle Paradox... it was Purgatory... it was swell...

I like hamsters. Draw your conclusions.
