You are right PHC, but I don't really want people submitting a movie thats only couple of seconds long.

But hey, this post is to get your guy's opinion, so I will not have a time frame on the movie, how does that sound? "Movie can be as short or as long as you like" or something like this, right?

Here I'd go with "duh" and/or "no one will vote for the crappy ones unless they hate your contest." If I can make a five-second movie that is better than anyone else's feature-length movie, I should win the contest.

On a completely different note, I'd also like a generous definition of "movie" that allows for some interaction. If everyone thinks this is a bad idea, I'll cave, but I think it'd be cool to allow a bit of choose-your-own-adventurism or something.

Ysoft, that's the same problem you had with your palette rules for Ms. Pixel, where you made a minimum of 3 colors. If someone makes a really good 5 second movie, it'll be judged fairly against the other entries. The voters will sort things out, you don't need a rule for it. I think you're makin' a good choice, man.

As for Moogle, I'm not sure. That'd really require some thought. Like, the viewer is never in DIRECT control? Ie: He might be asked "Should he live, or should he die?" but he doesn't actually get to play the fight, or move the character back and forth dodging? Seems like a whole can of worms that might be better left unopened.

Wouldn't that fit in a category of a game, or at least interactive story. That is not what I am looking for over here. But hey, why don't you host "Interactive story" contest or something, personally I think its a great idea.

This sounds like it could be an excellent idea, provided there's enough serious entries into it. I agree with PHC in that the length is secondary to the quality of the movies in question. The best way of course to get participation in this, is to give the directors total control of how their end products come out. Let them make their movies funny, serious, artistic, whatever direction they want to take them. My only reccomendation is that they write a short, no less than 100 word explaination for what kind of vision they were aiming for. This would help the public, or judges (however voting is determined) decide how well the directors were able to reach their own goals, and may in turn affect voting. The underlaying thought is that if you're going to tell them to make a movie, and it can be whatever they want, there needs to be a method to measure the movies' quality.

Got my support anyhow. Raspberry!

Fenrir, if you made your avatar a movie, you'd win my 10,000 dollars.

Aww, this is an OHR contest, not art class...

In any case, if I can think of a good idea on the day, I may enter.

And I made this in one afternoon!

um... the contest start date is sometimes in June. I will post some rules there and then.

You would have to create a movie from blank rpg file, a premade movie will not be accepted. This is to be fair to every participant.

Hey, don't be hating.
Early entries and premade movies are not allowed, thats period.

Look at it this way, if one of you ran a game contest, and I submitted a game that was made waaaaay before you even started the contest, what would you say?

i wouldn't really care. but as the contest has certain rules anyways (one being that it has to use a certain .rpg file), then it wouldn't really work anyways.
