So instead of just uploading the pure black and white (see BES does it again or the CPVS art thread or LOZSWOG) I colored em Happy

. So check out my first computer colored stuff. Don't go too hard on me (I'm still tryin to get the hang of it Raspberry!

)

A monster design thats been knockin around in my head lately.Might use it as a virus monster in CPVS...I had problems with arm patterns having shades of gray after I color it.

I just bought a howto book on the Korean style manga. This dosen't really reflect the style at all but I wanted to make a fake comic book cover. Once I got the threshold levels right it was pretty easy to color, but its easy to see where the errors are :/ .

Why not? One of his eyes is supposed to give off light so I used the lighting tool :<...Whatd I do wrong?

Lens flares just plain look bad. If you want something to give off light, just color it white and lighten up the immediate area. Don't use a computer-generated flare. It's overused and ugly.

You misspelled "tomorrow." I like the comic book cover look, but it is lacking comic book details. Try getting a real comic book to model it after.

The color has pretty good depth from what I see.
It's funny, I was thinking what PHC said before I read it. lol

Use the dodge tool. It makes a good light effect, in fact I am getting a sneaking suspition that's what the tool was created to do. >.>

The second one is a little blurry. Avoid the smudge tool. I recommend looking for different brush settings. Have you tried color burn or overlay?

Ah. Good to know.
Well let's see; overlay, darken, lighten, screen, the list goes on. They are settings which you can apply to brushes, layers, etc. I'm not sure how it works in Gimp, but let's talk PS. See the drop menu in the layer's pallet, for example. It should say Normal by default, but you can choose overlay from the drop menu when you left click it. basically, it makes things transparent. That's a handy thing to know when you want some sort of smoke effect around your art.

But I was talking about brushes, which have the same sort of drop menu, but it is usually located at the top of the screen with PS. Experiment with that, but I'll tell you what works for creating that light effect without using the questionable lense flare. Select the dodge tool (looks like a tack, and could be hiding in the tool bar under the sponge tool), change the brush to something with soft edges, fix the opacity to about 60 or 50%, change the brush setting to highlights so you can keep the details in the end result. Then go to the eye that glows and start brushing. I click a few times until I get the brightness I want.

Looks like War Of The Worlds stuff (since the movie came out everyone thinks they know sumthin') But its actually based this dream I had when people were inslaved by humans.My camp (all people from my school 4 sum reason) decieded to rebel and we got found out. I'll have more stuff later. This took forever to do (can you say 5,000 plus shades of (what looks like)basic white!!!)

EDIT (5 minutes after the post was made)Yes Yes I know I used the cliche lensflare (twice) but I really served what I needed it too look like. Please forgive me in advance.

I guess lense flare works a little better here. Just as long as yer experimenting with the settings. I like your colorful pictures.
