It's me.

About those glassy tiles. I think it would kick ass if they were slightly transparent. Do you know what I mean? Being able to see the lava below them slightly. One can accomplish this by getting the color of the tile that is supposed to be under the glass and making the shade lighter or darker, depending on the type of glass.

1a)Since I noticed your glass is a light color (blueish), the can be tinted the reddish color of the lava. About -- oh, let's say -- 5 or 6 times. Obviously, the more opaque the glass is, the thicker it is, and vice versa. A thinner glass (less opaque) would make the player feel almost like he/she is walking on the lava, and that is a great feeling!

1b) Maybe one could find a pink or a greenish red to tint the glass. This is to show the lava that is below it just a bit.

And yes, the OHR has it's limmits regarding this, even with all of it's colors (which happen to be mostly shades Wink ). People have done this thing many times in the past with the OHR, so it works. No worries.

That is my only suggestion. Sorry if that was confusing. x.x

I thought about that, actually. I'm still thinking about it.

And, yes, this is a repost from the art forum, but it belongs here, too:

I know, I know. I need to finish the other heroes' battle animations.

Ajora: Excellent shading. And those hanging head things are wicked lookin'. How many shades did you use on these? 3? 4? Don't say you used more than 5...

To whom it may concern: And, well this does sort of belong on the Art corner more than General discussion. And perhaps the Anouncement area. General discussion is really more for talk about the RPG engine and questions about it's capabilities, or something. Although, I think we all sort of disown that fact from time to time, so it's ok. Am I right? I might get yelled at now, so catch you later, foos.

Thank you. I did use more than five, in fact. Two in the outer flame, four on the inner head totals to six shades. The outline black makes seven. Palette swaps of that particular monster make the flame and the head use slightly different colors, so they're not just throwaways to fill up the palette.

Really, the purpose of this thread is more to showcase the game than to analyze my graphical techniques. I could care less what forum it's in, but that's why I put it here.

The character portrait in the first shot is nice. I'd love to see more of this in games.

Ah. That is a very interesting way to look at it. I meant shades in one form, but you do have a good point. And thank you. I will remember that.

PS: Announcement board if not the Art board.

Proving that I'm not dead, here's a revised screenshot. More than anything, it shows how little I've done.

Hooray! A new character. You might recognize Alyssa from the portraits thread.

For those who are wondering, I still plan to release some form of demo by the end of the month. It will either be a battle demo like the Final Fantasy VIII demo disc or an intro demo like the Final Fantasy VII demo disc. I'm leaning towards battle demo, mostly because that's much more playable.

It won't be much, probably no more than ten minutes, but so far it's looking like the uncontested demo of the month.

You copied it over the old version of the screenshot, we can't compare it! At least, I can't remember what the first one was like.

The first one, I think, was the same shot but with fewer characters.

Wow! A WHOLE new character! Razz

Can't wait 'til the demo gets out. The previous screen shots with the faces are extremely intriguing.

You promised better detail on the skeleton after you colored it. I am disappointed... The other monsters are pretty well colored, though. I really like the design of that blobby plant with tentacles, but I think it could have used more detail. In fact, all of these (excluding the serpent lady, who's shading is really something you can go off of) pretty much look like they are surrounded by a very bright light. More shade = more details filled in.
This is because all things have details and darkness is what fills those details in.

The backdrop is awesome. I like the slant of the battle field. Things that are closer look bigger as it should be. Nice. Happy

Um, no I didn't, Leroy. What I did say about the skeleton was:

The second one was drawn for use as an enemy sprite, so if it's missing some detail, that's to be expected.

I mentioned that it was low-detail because it would be used for a monster sprite. I also said:

Again, the sketch hides the fact that he's wearing chainmail.

And, lo and behold, now he's wearing... um, scale mail. So sue me. I can't draw chainmail at that resolution.

But point taken on the shading. I'll definitely go back and work on some of those monsters.

I'm kind of curious what "something you can go off of" is supposed to mean, but I'm really not sure I want to know...

Dead thread revive!

This image contains the last two hero images. I'm not sure I ever got around to posting a screenshot of James and Liesa, but they've had their graphics for a long time. Add a previously unposted backdrop and enemy graphic and you've got a screenshot worth posting.
