how about using global variables, or even local to store the locations of the npc's? _________________ Try my OHR exporter/importer.

I am still going to do this for you sometime unless one of the programmer gents tells me he is going to put this feature into the next release of the engine. _________________

Mike "forgot"?
I can't attack him. I've been working on implementing arrays since last year, but haven't done anything in the past 3 months, and playsnd.asm fiddling has been going nowhere months after people were looking forward to a demo. |

What did I forget? *glances at previous posts* Oh. Right. It's... coming... Yes. Coming. Soon. (suckers!) _________________ I stand corrected. No rivers ran blood today. At least, none that were caused by us.

Implementing arrays? We already have a huge array of globals. How is this different? _________________

It's not! HAHAHAHA!!!!
ehhh, basically, it's just better organisation. Scripting a 3 dimensional array is messy, messy business. As a scripting fanatic, I wanted more beautiful (easier to debug and write) code :( I was just saying, I'm lazy. |

Basically, what he's saying is that he'd rather do MORE work, to allow him to do less.
And, the funny thing is that (as a programmer), I can clearly see the logic. _________________ I stand corrected. No rivers ran blood today. At least, none that were caused by us.

you can fake arrays already by using "read global" and "write global"
The plan is eventually to make special magical syntax in Hspeak where you can write:
| Code: |
var[foo] := bar
show value(var[foo])
|
and it will get automagically translated to
| Code: |
write global(global var ID(var) + foo, bar)
show value(read global(global var ID(var) + foo))
|
That is an oversimplification, and the actual implementation will probably look much different than the example, but that is what the goal is. |

| Haha, fubar. I hope that's not a commentary on the status of the OHR, or the scripting involved, or else I'll be a bit sad. Lemme just take this opportunity to thank all you wacky programmers and scripters who work so hard to give us new features, and for the most part explain to me what these new features are, and how they work. |

"foobar" does come from the military acronym FUBAR, but it's now a common pair of variable names in computer science. Why? Dunno, but everyone uses it. _________________

Wow, I didn't even know it had such status, I've just been using the variable name foo since programming in QB as a kid, when I had no examples of others code.
Also, You should be able to declare local (including arguments) as well as global arrays. That's the only new functionability. |
