Well my point is that you are mostly complaining to people who have released full games and yes, they are serious. I think in all respects they may be allowed make joke games.
Somehow they are contibuting to the community more than you, but you complain that they are not.
Try making a joke game. Pokemon war does not count. Make people laugh. Laughter is just as rewarding as playing a serious lengthy game (And enjoying it). _________________

I hope you're talking about video/audio quality, because as an engine and in terms of easy-to-use-and-able-to-do-great-things interface, OHR is already way better than the highly limited, poorly designed, and particularly not-cool RPG Maker. |

Quote: | The only reason it would be less inspiring is if the serious games got less acclaim/support then the non-serious ones, which almost never happens. Plus, no one is releasing big, serious games because they are more then likely WORKING on them to make them GOOD, unlike 99% of the "serious" games that are released every week.

THANK YOU.
This list includes:
Scary Game 3
Stop
Sword of Jade
Timestream Saga Second Edition
Wandering Hamster
My personal opinion is that these so called "joke" games hit more on the spirit of the OHR than these 5 minute abominations that get released on a weekly basis. The OHR should be about experimentation, which is what its become in the last two years. Or maybe you've forgotten that we've seen the engine produce MORE GENRES of games than it has in the entire lifetime of its existance. We've got full length platformers, movies, sidescrollers, shooters, quiz games, survival-horror, and of course RPGs. Based on this alone, the community isn't dying - it's thriving. |

well, now I agree with fen. the people figured out how to do more than rpg with ohr engine. which is really good. and its ports I bet would allow even more flexibility, since right now what limits ohr is dos, I am hoping that windows ports won't have any serious limitations. the only limits that I currently see in windows ports of ohr is how much memory people have on their computers. _________________ Try my OHR exporter/importer.

Moogle: Yes, unfortunately most people don't take that into consideration. With some major ingenuity you can make some legitimate quality games with the OHR, but I've played maybe ten or fewer OHR games in traditional genres that I'd call good, not just "good in comparison to everything else available for the OHR", and maybe two or three traditional fantasy style RPGs that didn't make me vomit.
If Scary Game 3 is as good as I expect though, then I might just have to retract my negativity. _________________ BANDIT REVOLVER, DOWNLOAD IT OR ELSE.

Could you please specify which RPG Maker you are talking about? For instance, RPG Maker 1 was very nicely designed(in many ways, it was even more user-friendly than the OHR), and it's only annoying limitation was the memory block requirements(which isn't too bad, considering it's a pretty old PS1 engine.). RPG Maker 2 is a step up from this, and actually teaches beginning programing.
As for Jj's statement, I agree a little bit. No, I don't think that we should all try to be Square-Enix imitators, but I think that people(game design newbies in particular)should wait to release a game until they've got more of a grasp onto what direction they're going. Please correct me if I'm wrong(I'd like to be able to understand this more), but I think that some of you are at a misunderstanding. Jj stated earlier(when asked about her participation with OHR house)that she wasn't condemning humourous games. So, my assumption is that she meant the term "joke games" to be for games that are Magnus clones-- "newbie" games that try to be serious, but throw so many bad jokes in(as well as other terrible elements)that it's disheartening, and the game itself seems like a joke.
If I am mistaken, again, please correct me. _________________ http://www.oddwebsite.com/ddw.php?tjord=11 |

I think she more specifically meant very short comedic games (cause of her "no effort" remark). Like Zoidberg.
Come to think of it, it's weird that she brought up Zoidberg now considering that was released months ago. _________________ Locked

Biting off my fingers is more fun than most of the games on the gamelist.
Zoidberg is still cool though. _________________ Locked
