Okay, One more time...

Quote:
The actual opening date for the contest shall be April 1st, and will last an entire month until April 30th. If you begin work on your game within this timeframe and submit it before the deadline, you will not be penalized (obviously).

If you begin your game before April 1st, then you must notify us with a disclaimer in your game, along with the month you began actual work on it. You may also post when you begin on your project in this thread, if you wish to be on the safe side of things. It makes no difference whether you begin on the first day of a month, or the last, or in the middle, it will still be counted as a month's head start.

In this case, I'm starting early. I've already made the public aware that I'm starting on my project now, so I'm going to be penalized. Keep reading...

Quote:
For every month before the contest begins that you are working on your game, a deduction of one point will be taken from your game as a penalty. The above rules all apply in determining what a 'month' is. For the purposes of this contest, the month of April will not be counted against you.

I'm starting in January, and each month I spend working on it will count one point against me. January + February + March = 3 Months extra. Since April does not count in terms of penalties, I will be deducted 3 points from my final score.

In other words, if my game gets 30 points in its division, then I'll have 27 after the penalties. The whole point of starting early is to give people time, but you have to pay for it. You can start at any time, you just have to say when. If you start in April, nothing bad happens. That's all.

I object to the poll. I'm not entering, but I still plan to win.

That's an utterly brilliant strategy actually, considering that OHRhouse and OMGtizroxors were entered last time and did remarkably well. If anyone can pull it off, you probably can.

And Red... I was hoping you'd enter, I know you've been looking forward to this. I never got to play your previous entry. Sad... And for the record, I'm not mad at you or anything, I've just been kinda busy and slow to respond to emails. That and I tend to forget to put up an away message. Hope you can forgive me?

The main problem for me is trying to work on this game without people walking in and wondering what my problem is.

Well, I still have a LOT of notes on my first OHR project, which I realised was terrible after I stopped being so n00bish. I started back in... 02 or 03, and I was planning on starting it again, so if I get my .RPG file and finish it now will that recieve a penalty or not? I know you've explained 2A several times, but I want to be extra safe and not recieve a -24 penalty or something horrible like that.

The answer of course can be found NOT in 2A, but in 2C:

Code:
*2C* If you've been working on your entry before this point, you won't be penalized, since that would be akin to punishing someone for breaking the law before a law had been made. I will however begin deducting points starting now.

At the moment I'd say start over from scratch, depending on how long it was. If you've only got maybe 5 minutes of playtime, then it's not worth it. On the other hand, If you can play it for like 30 minutes or so, then it's really a matter of semantics. &Ampersand can keep me busy for about 2 1/2 hours and it wasn't made in nearly that much time.

I think, since you did start many months early, that the game would get the -4 penalty for December provided you use that RPG file. If it's all just in the design phase (like just in your head or in notes) then I don't think there would be any penalty. Heck, I've got ideas for about 6 different games right now. If I used them in another contest should I be excluded from it just for thinking them up months in advance? I don't think so.

If you use the old game, and it does have some content in it, remember that it must follow the filesize rule (Double it) and it would also be placed in the Remake division provided it had not been in a Terrible Games contest before.

Okay, that helps.

I'll just make an original game and wait 'till the contest starts.

By the way, I WIN and have the first entry with Shadowiii vs Santa Barbara Airport DX (my triple contest entry to Human/Gilbert Day and this!). I'll probably churn something much more offensive and stupid out later, though.
