JSH's review of "Push the Button" is even better than the game. _________________

The review was very entertaining, yes. I got a great laugh out of it.
Though I don't agree with the scores. JSH is cracking. _________________ But enough talk, have at you! |

Actually, that was a fairly serious review. DPTB is near-perfect as along as you have the music playing. |

Too bad the grading system isn't relative to the complexity of the game.
Well, it's not supposed to be, anyway. _________________ You got film in my video game!

Bah, complexity isn't important. I prefer simple games to slogs any day of the week.
And to get technical, DPTB has some pretty complex psychology involved. |

Well slap me down and call me Nancy. Why have we been wasting our time trying to make excellent games when it's possible to make perfect emulations of ridiculously simple tasks and get ourselves an A.
Seriously, it's an insult to the game creators out there working their guts out to make a good game. What sort of message is this supposed to send out? I have a sneaking suspicion that any second, you'll burst out laughing and explain that it's all a joke, and I don't 'get it', but I have a worse fear that you wont. _________________ You got film in my video game!

Have I ever mentioned how stupid CP's review format is?
Really, all of my reviews just boil down to: play it or don't.
There's no reason to sift through a letter system based on a completely illogical grading process (The A-F scale) when I can just say whether or not the game is playable. If I give the game an 'A,' play it. If I give the game a 'B,' read the review and decide. If I give it lower than a 'C,' it probably isn't worth your time.
Feel free to whine and get the review deleted, but I honestly think DPTB deserves an A.
And as for the effort argument, I've said it over and over:
Effort != quality
I actually ENJOYED this particular game, as opposed to 90% of OHR games. Since I have to grade all of the games on the list based on such an arbritary system, that makes it an A. The effort involved has nothing to do with it, and you probably didn't sit through the whole thing if you say there was nothing involved in the game's creation. DPTB accomplishes its theme better than any OHR game I've ever seen, and it's pretty clear to me that Gizmog had to put some serious effort into the game's presentation.
This is all I'm going to say about the issue. I've beaten this horse to death over and over. |

Look, it's an amusing idea, that's all a game has to be. Even bouncing a ball off the wall, or playing with a yo-yo is a game, despite the simplicity. And endless enjoyment can be derived from both. A game need not be complex to be fun, and I think a review should be based mostly on the fun derived from the game, with only the graphics and music sections praising their proper fields. Seizure Inducer, another simple game, is one of my all time favorites in the OHR. So, quit trying so hard to do something fun, come up with an idea you like, and do it as fast as you can. Hell, I don't see what all the problem is about. A game doesn't have to be an RPG, or even complex, to bring the player SOME form of joy, even if it's just a slideshow of candy, toys, and naked ladies. |

If you don't like it, you can always write a counter review. We all have the right to voice our opinions, so go for it. _________________ But enough talk, have at you! |

Also Squall, a game isn't only as good as the effort put into it. I mean, Blow Up? That game is one of the best games on the OHR. Period. But what'd it take like two hours to make the whole thing? Really, Don't Push the Button is exactly, EXACTLY like Blow Up, but on the other end of the spectrum. They're sister pieces really. One is about pushing buttons really fast, the other is about not pushing buttons... really slow.
A lot of effort will impress of course, but the inspiration is what we grade, not the perspiration. Quality, not quantity.
Honestly, I love DPTB. It's not as simple as it looks. It really is a classic. It's experimental gameplay though and most people don't know how to react to games that aren't, you know, lifebar, weapons and cool environments type games. Games have such a wide range of styles that are possible, but 99% of the games that exist are action. I love DPTB because it's more like suspense, it's a perfect simulation of temptation. Really, when you see a button with no label......
....You know you wanna push it. _________________ BANDIT REVOLVER, DOWNLOAD IT OR ELSE.

Games only need to be long and complex if a long and complex storyline is involved. If there is no storyline, there is no need for a long game. Both ways can be fun, and, likewise, both ways can suck.
To end this on a good note, DPTB is an example of a game with no storyline that doesn't suck. An example of a long one that doesn't suck would be

Ok, I'm beginning to believe that I made a mistake, and figured I might as well share why this managed to push my buttons (har) the wrong way.
It's always been one of my dreams to make a great game, get lots of great reviews and be one of the top 10 reviewed games. I know there are other people who share this dream, and are working their butt off to make games. But when I saw a game up on the list that probably took less than an hour to make and got an A, it just made me really mad for some reason. That's what I get when I read Rinku's livejournal and then come here, I guess.
Well, JSH and Giz's opinions are perfectly valid, and since I just made a royal dick of myself, I'll just apologize and drop it. _________________ You got film in my video game!

I actually think Giz's opinion is more than valid... I'd print it out and put it in a portrait (seriously) because it's just that good
and I don't think you made that much of a royal dick of yourself... especially after certain events that I've done in my life. (no details) _________________ If we were a pack of dogs, IM would be a grand Hound, CN would be a very ficious little pitball, and Giz...well, it doesn't matter breed he is, he'd still be a bitch
