|
|
As many of you well know, the FAQ has not been updated in quote a long time... That is mainly because it was such a pain for me to manually edit. well, I *finally* decided to do something about it. I am experimenting with converting the FAQ to a Wiki.
My main reason for this is to make it easier for me to edit and update it. Being able to edit it right through my browser is a big plus, and the ability to search and auto-categorize questions is nice.
And the other huge bonus of a Wiki is that it becomes just as easy for other people to help too.
I am still getting used to Wiki administration, and I am currently hosting my test-wiki at work (so I may have to move it later if it generates too much traffic), but for your amusement, I present: OHRRPGCE-wiki
I currently have the whole Old FAQ converted over, and a few updates made.
Future goals include:
* moving questions and answers from the old Help Me" message board
* moving the HOWTO
* moving the Plotscripting Tutorial (but NOT the plotscripting dictionary)
* Adding screenshots to FAQ questions that would benefit from them
* Adding Wiki pages that describe each different menu in CUSTOM.EXE |

James, this is a great idea! Should help cut down on simple questions quite a bit. Will there be a separate section of the Wikis for plotscripting? |

This is an incredibly awesome idea, particularly with the ability for others to contribute- I for one am far more excited to consider writing OHR-related tutorials and documentation for something like this where it's mostly in one place, easily seen by all. (And easily editable) _________________ "Why is it when they say an adult has the mind of a Sew, they lock him up, while Sews are allowed to run free in the streets."

Wow! This will really be useful. I see the FAQ & other documentation expanding vastly due to this : P _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |

So it's alright for anyone to submit (well thought out) articles into this?
If so perhaps some plotscript tutorials can be ported over, Moogle1's site is one place I can think of with lots of good articles, also I could send over some too _________________ Signature |

I am in the middle of constructing my website, onto which I will upload the tutorials and the PS Library. Come to think of it, though, I'll probably public domain them, since people generally seem to have found them useful. _________________

No, it'll be here on CP. That way, if this site ever goes down, we're all screwed! _________________

James, should we all start adding stuff to the wiki? Or is would you rather we wait until you organised everything bit? _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |

Yes, anyone can post or edit anything (although naturally if somebody vandalizes something, the changes will be reverted, and they will be scolded. Repeat offenders can be banned, but I hope to avoid that)

Go for it. Keeping things organized is part of the overall process too. For example, if you see something that somebody else wrote that would go well in the "Plotscripting" category, you can just add [[Category:Plotscripting]] to it, or if somebody post a good article with horrible spelling, you can fix it. There is a "Recent Changes" page at http://gilgamesh.dnsalias.org:8080/wiki/ohrrpgce/index.php/Special:Recentchanges so it is easy for me to find and proofread new submissions, there is a page for finding links that lead to articles that haven't been written yet at http://gilgamesh.dnsalias.org:8080/wiki/ohrrpgce/index.php/Special:Wantedpages so it is easy to find things that need to be worked on. |

ZING. I'm there.
Earlier, I accidentally created a new user "The Mad". I hit the "create new user" button by mistake before I had finished typing in my username. Could you delete it? Sorry for the inconvience.
And I'll get a spell checker : P
First things first: repair that "max 200 npc instances" typo, I've waited a good several months since sending you an email asking about it. _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |

After some fiddling about, I realize there IS NO delete feature. The "Wiki" way of doing things takes some getting used to. Just ignore the un-needed "The Mad" account. No doubt the Wiki will eventually be littered with unused accounts :)
No harm in that. Accounts are very small. |

I added info about levelmp (taken from a post you made on the helpme MB, james.) and info about preprocessing backgrounds so ohrrpgce import leaves them unchanged.
I want to add info about what locations graphics are drawn at*, but haven't figured out a non-ambiguous wording yet
* by which i mean, where the weapons are drawn relative to the player, where attack graphics hit, where the 'active hero' pointer is located... |
