I've been thinking of hosting a contest for a while, but then the Terrible games contest started up and I lost my chance to cash in on my thoughts. Oh well. Best to show it up?

The basis of this 'contest' is to attempt to construct a game that is awful, insulting, terrible, disgusting, or something along those line but still be playable to the point where it actually keeps the player's interest long enough to get to the end. This is to show that a game can still be fun to play, even if the rest of the game isn't.

As an example... Arfenhouse is by definition a game that nobody in their right mind would play, were it not for the fact it's funny and most people will go ahead and finish it because of that fact. Walthrus:ROTC also falls into this category because it is a graphical nightmare, the content of its battles and story would never belong in any other RPG, yet it still works and most people will finish it, rather than play the game it parodies. Chaos Nyte's entry in the Terrible Games contest also works because of the shock value of seeing *THAT* in a porno store. Mr Triangle works if only because some people can enjoy the games, notwithstanding the main character swears more than Barret, Cid, and half a dozen rap musicians combined.

There are a few guidelines to follow of course.

*Racial slurs are not allowed, unless the race in question is obviously fake. Calling a gnome an ankle-biter is fair game.
*If you must insult someone, or parody them in some fashion, do not refer to them by name. Calling Multicolored Mage "Monochomatic Cleric" is acceptible.
*You must parody at least one person in the community in some fashion. See above for details.
*Your game can use ripped graphics or music, provided you obtain the person's permission to do so BEFORE you do it. This will be fairly easy to do, since most people in the community despise ripped graphics and Final Fantasy music more than anything else. Of course, you can re-use graphics you've done for your own games, if that speeds up your development time.
*You can reuse any previous Terrible Game Contest entry YOU made and resubmit that, provided you add at least as much new content to it as already exists in it. Thus if your game was 5 minutes long, it must now be at least 10 minutes long. This is to compensate for the fact that there are several contests already going on, and few people would be willing to create an entirely new game from scratch.
*There will be no file that you MUST use. You may freely hack your own file and add any sort of password protections or whatever to it.
*Cooperation on other people's RPG submissions is allowed so long as you give them credit.
*Likewise, you may enter two or more submissions.
*You may not steal someone else's game and either change the text, stats, foes, or graphics without the original author's permission. Stealing FFH and giving it a noobie translation is fair game ONLY if you have the author's permission to do so. Contact them in whatever manner you can.
*Anything not covered above is fair game.

This terrible games contest 1.WTF shall begin on July 7th at 7 PM CST, and end on August 8th 8 PM CST, giving you a full month's time and then some to complete your project. You can enter the contest until any time up to the last minute. If your submission is late, chances are, we won't care, so long as it isn't unreasonably late. You may also submit your game early if you so choose, and even update it, though the version you make availible on the 8th of 8 is the ONLY one that will count.

Anyone may judge these games and may pick their three favorites in the following categories:

*Graphics (Good or bad, this goes both ways)
*Music (Good or bad, this goes both ways. You HAVE to be able to hear the music to judge here)
*Enjoyment (Did you still enjoy the game?)
*Length (They've got a month. Did the game feel like it took that long to make or was it hastily done? This can also be taken to mean 'it was just short enough')
*Overall (Your overall favorite for this contest)

Number one in each pick gets 3 points, 2 gets 2 points, 3rd place in your pick gets 1 point. For example...

Somebody picks Game X for 1st place in graphics, 2nd in music, none in enjoyment, 3rd in length, and 2nd overall. Pointwise, that's 3+2+0+1+2=8 points. After the voting/judging has ended, the entire totals of each game will be tallied up, and a contest winner will be named. There can be only one. I have yet to decide when the voting period will begin or end, though since that's a month of planning and game making anyway, that's plenty of time to wait.

Though you may vote for your three favorites in each category, only the decided winner pointwise will receive a prize. The prize will be EITHER (a) Peice of artwork by yours truly of whatever you like delivered by mail or (b) an item of no more than $25 from the Castle Paradox Store. In the event of the latter, I'll coordinate with IM to see about getting the prize to you.

JSH...er...POODLES better resubmit OMG TIT ROXORS TOO for this, because that game is awsome. And you can't have too much more of TIT ROXORS. Wait, yes you can. Just not TOO much more. Or something.

This is going to be my best game ever. The great thing about it is no pleasure on how good or bad it is, 'cause I can make it as sucky as I want it.

Aw, man! This would be the perfect opportunity for me to make Captain Hook's Revenge, but I'm going to be out of state from the 17th through the 1st of August. I'll try and whip something up though. Just don't be surprised if I can't in the end.

An amendment then. I will be collecting votes on whether to amend the rules to allow racial slurs, etc., by PM ONLY. At 11PM CST I will cease collecting, tally up the votes and then announce whether said remarks are acceptable or not. In your subject line simply put "YES" if you want them, and "NO" if you don't.

Note you can also post screenshots, teasers, etc to intimidate others and drive them to make their games go even moreso over the edge.
