Other games I like and don't like and forgot to post:

Crystalis- Zelda ripoffs SUCK! This is one of the only good ones that I like. I especially like the element/level system and the fact that you can teleport to places that you visited before.

Megaman- Just about every one of these games is a classic!

Starfox (games with the arwing)- my favorite space shooter. Contains unique stages, weapons, and enemies. And the plot seems to never end.

Starfox ADVENTURES- by far the WORST zelda ripoff ever. It's boring, the puzzles are annoying, and it has no flair. And what's up with the bosses? They're either too easy, or too annoying (I did like the music that played when you ran into the sharptooth though....)

Final Fantasy Adventure- I used to play this game a lot. It is EXTREMELY unique since it has a wide variety of weapons, armor bitsets, miscellaneous selling items, enemies, and bosses. This is, by far, the best Zelda-like game I've ever played.

Games that are in between:

Phantasy star- this game is too slow and too boring. However, the storyline is ok.

Phantasy Star II- I have yet to beat this game. It's a very good game with the graphics and the battle system and all. However, when you get to the dams, it tends to get extremely frustrating and tedious.

FFIII- this game has one of the widest varieties of class change systems available. However, the score goes down because of certain bosses and that ever so annoying Faargabaad splitting monster cave.

FFV- another game with unique class change system. This game is extremely annoying, however, because until you get Bahamut, you have VIRTUALLY NO POWER WHATSOEVER!

FFVI- this game is also unique. I enjoyed playing through it. However, it just didn't interest me so much the second time around, so I stopped playing it. Maybe I'll pick it up again in the future (unless I'm with a girl....or some girls. Happy )

Legend of Legaia- while I don't understand diddley-squat about this game, its fun as hell to watch my brother beat it.

FFAIII- this game is annoying and tedious as it is inspirational and fun. I enjoy playing through it as much as I do throwing it across my room like a shuriken.

Lagoon- fun and annoying. Fun in the sense that it has an interesting storyline and play system, annoying in the sense that they programmed Ella Pissed off!

And that's about it.....

I never played Ape Escape 2. But the first one was awesome. Sure the storyline wasn't the best, but the gameplay was astounding. I should've put that on my good games list as well. Heh.

Calling Crystalis a Zelda ripoff is like calling Zelda an Adventure ripoff.

That's just MY opinon. I don't give a da- err, crap about what everyone says, but Zelda is the FIRST and ONLY adventure game (sure I must sound ignorant, but this is just my sense of pride talking).

That sounds like a fantastic idea. No, I'm dead serious.

Then you'll love this one.

Let's organize a contest with the goal of producing 'games' whose sole purpose is to insult, infuriate, and disgust as many people as possible with the cunning and tactical usage of profanity, shock value, and sexual innuendo, while still being engrossingly addictive and fun to play. CN's Terrible Contest entry comes to mind, as does Walthrus and PHC's IRON CHEF WALRUS game (the name eludes me). Ripped graphics, music, plotlines, etc are allowed since it'll tick off the graphics, music, and originality purists in the community, and any final fantasy references you can slyly sneak in without anyone noticing get bonus points. Bonus points for insulting somebody's bad traits without actually naming the person you're satyrizing (Monochrome White Mage? Spark Dogg? Law Rogue?).

.....A sexually oriented business sim comes to mind.

Anyway, back on topic, I liked FFVII enough that it convinced me to actually buy my own PSX, and I've never looked back.

I believe that was the original intent of the Terrible Games contest: to create a game that is terrible in more ways than one. The only problem was that most people limited themselves to one form of "terrible," mostly graphical/gameplay oriented, with only a few going into offensive (mine, specialkitty's, and CN's, as I recall).

It was a bloody freebie, some bored Nintendo programmer probably wrote a 64 emulator during his lunch break and someone saw it and said "Hey, remember that reverse zelda thing we only released in small quantities even in Japan because the DD was a huge failure? Let's make it so people can actually play it by making it a pre-order bonus! And include the original game, too! For free!"

by "original game" which one is that? the one with oot and master quest (where oot is the "original game"), or oot, mm, z1, and z2 (where z1 is the "original game")?

Let's stick to the topic. No, no, no...;

Another good game:

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow (GBA) - This is, in my opinion, the second best Castlevania game around (second only to the almighty Symphony of the Night). It helps that the game has superior graphics and sound, but the gameplay is where it's at. The Soul System is unique to this type of game and gives the player a huge array of abilities to choose from, which keeps the game interesting. Sure, some of the abilities are blatantly better than the others, but the ones that aren't necessarily powerful but just plain interesting give you different ways to play the game. The game is harder than Harmony of Dissonance and generally more fun to play. The large variety of weapons that Soma can wield allows the player to select which "class" of weapon he prefers, as most weapons fall into a general category (i.e. fast but weak, slow but powerful, etc.). The gameplay is above average simply because of the seamless way all of this fits together into one nice little package. Don't miss this one, especially if you're a Castlevania or Metroid fan.

Another bad game:

Legend of Mana (PSX) - As with my BoF2 writings, I'll get to the good part quickly: The game's animation is way above-average and the backgrounds are the best on this system. The graphics, simply, are fantastic. But let's not kid ourselves here. The gameplay and story of Legend of Mana is so awful that I can't believe they slapped the Seiken Densetsu name on this game. The game is made up of 60 or so "mini-quests" that eventually lead up to the final boss of the game. Doesn't sound too bad, does it? The issue is that you create the world as you go along. That means there is no cohesive world, and without that you can't really have a solid story, now can you? The mini-quests often have no point other than to generate more areas on the world map, and those that do have some semblance of a point end up making you scratch your head at the end to try and figure out what the hell just happened. The other issue is the gameplay itself. The developers took the excellent battle systems from the two SNES Mana games and tooled it a bit into something that is a steaming pile of crap. No longer is the battle system in a "Zelda-style" action RPG for lack of a better term. The battles play out more like Star Ocean's. This doesn't work for a Mana game, especially when you consider that you only get one ally and then a Golem or a pet, both of which aren't that useful. The main character is so powerful you could probably beat the game with him/her alone without leveling past level one. The other problem is the utter uselessness of magic. It does very little damage or has effects that don't matter considering your character's going to demolish the enemy anyway due to his/her overwhelming power. It's worse than Laharl in Disgaea and Orlandu in FFT. Finally, the "workshops" are useless because everything you can find is quite powerful enough. All of this leads to a mess of a game that should not have been released. Why, oh why can't you guys just make a modern Secret of Mana?

Another great game was Kirby SuperStar Saga: Why? Because it was the first Kirby game on the SNES and it had multiplayer capability. Which made the game even funner. And there were tons of powers and the graphics just looked really good. Same Kirby fun, just for action. And you can never have too much action.
