I tried out your program, and I found that it worked pretty well. Good job.

I didn't have any problems with resolution/bit depth...

Not fair... another tileviewer program??????????
will it have the compatibility to export all of the graphic files from ohr?
if so then my program is totally useless.
oh well, if no one wants to use my program than they have a choice not to.
and I also figured out how to load master palette, so next release will allow you to get view and save tiles with palettes that were modified.

I cannot believe I missed that.

oh well live and learn

oh yea, solsund, I cannot download your file because it says something about remote linking.

I want to be able to import graphics into the OHR directly from a sheet... if so, that'd be awesome.

What do you mean MCW? Like a scanning tool that goes straight into OHR?

YSoft: Actually the program I already had written was able to view the tilesets if you pointed it at the tileset file. I just took advantage of that fact to quickly work out a windowed mode that could handle it.

I wouldn't really call it competition as I'm not attempting to compete, I had planned on writing a windowed mode of the program I already had and when I saw the color oddities in your program it made me think I'd hit the same snag.

I'm assuming you are not using DirectX for your programs and instead are relying on the GDI to take care of it.

Now that I've worked it out if you do decide to switch to DirectX I can help you work out a windowed mode, however I don't know how much support for DirectX Visual Basic has.

Not to mention I dug out more bugs in my filesystem code working it out, so it's not a bad thing.

I figured the code to handle switching screen modes while the program was running was just a nicety. I forgot that programs like game and custom change the screen mode when they run.

If you are running my program and run game/custom you end up in an infinite loop of error box messages.

Sorry about that, I'll get that fixed up. Happy

I reccomend just checking to see if a password exists. if there is a password, do not allow export. If there is no password, allow export.

I figured that if there is a password, do not allow the program to even open the rpg file, not to mention exporting it. which is what I will do in the next release of the program, until I figure out how the passwords are really stored.

Well, there goes that program.

I was working out the code to handle screen mode changes last night and MSVC++ ate my program.

All of a sudden the screen went a little haywire and I figured it was just a graphical problem so I finished the line I was writing and went to compile.

I was using that split-screen ability most text editors have that allows you to look at two different spots in the same text file at the same time and I guess only what was found in the bottom window survived the screw-up so unless I want to re-write the code it's pretty dead.

At least it was only the main piece of the code and not the FileSystem code.

WHY DON"T YOU KEEP A BACKUP?!?

*makes some backups of his own code*

The irony of the situation is that because I have free time between classes I tend to take a copy of my files out to college with me but the framework code for this application was all written over the weekend.

It's not that bad as I just started working on something more productive than a simple image viewer anyways.

I've started to build structures and class wrappers for dealing with OHR files and have three of the multitudes done. I don't know what some of the bytes in the files do so there are gaps but those parts I do know are working.

Eventually I'll have the whole set of them wrapped up inside a class for the RPG file itself and to load up all the data I'll just have to call one function but that's in the future.

I'll keep the project I'm building it for secret for now until I have something to actually show off but I do think it will be useful.

Oh, the file that contains the password is one of the ones I've got working already so I've got password handling now. Don't know about working with backwords compatability on the passwords but one step at a time.
