Ok, time to start quoting:
| Quote: | | The next update, (and pretty much every update from here on out) will focus soley on bug-fixes, not on new features |
James has been saying often lately that the OHR is near completion, and will recieve few new features from now on.
| Quote: | | I have no plans to stop fixing bugs in it... well, EVER. |
So.. new releases may keep coming for a long time, but they won't be anything new... _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |

Woah big news! I haven't been around in a while. Anyway, now we can all start speculating on what HamsterWheel will do... _________________ Ssalamanderr's Journal!: http://www.livejournal.com/users/ssalamanderr/

Did somebody say it would be capable of playing Midi files instead of Bams? That would be unspeekably awsome!
Heh. It was dumb of me, but I was thinking of how cool a 3D Game making engine would be. Then I realized how un-user friendly that would be. Not to mention the work load on James.
'Will try not to have a heart attack waiting for this...
Ooo! A list of features would be awsome too. _________________ Planning Project Blood Summons, an MMORPG which will incinerate all of the others with it's sheer brilliance...

There are already 3D game engines out there, search the web.
Also, I would guess that HamsterWheel would actually be incapable of playing bam files, but would support a variety of stuff. But look, it hasn't even been planned yet. _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |

There's a WinAMP plugin to play BAMs, so BAM playback is very much possible to do in Windows.
In response to above post about MIDIs, of course; MIDI playback has been possible since Win 3.1 (You should have seen my collection of MIDIs when I had that computer), you have to remember James is using a compiler made to only access 640k RAM, and most of that memory is being used to, well, run the engine. _________________

I never said playing BAM's in Windows was impossible, I meant that it wouldn't really be the main sound format supported because midi and others sound so much better. Of course midi support has been around forever. I would be shocked if it wasn't supported. _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |

I wouldn't suprised if Wheel has BAM playback either. It is relatively easy to do. _________________

| If HamsterWheel can play midis I will die. The thing is I can put on all my favourite FF music, like the FFX-2 Victory song, and the FF6 Victory Song. |

No offense, but that's exactly why the hamster wheel shouldn't be able to play MIDIs. _________________

Or maybe James should add some code that makes Hamster Wheel crash if you put in music from FF.
Yeah, I know it isn't possible, but it would be nice. |

Fear not, I have a simple solution- we simply tell Eggie that we won't play his games if he does that.
Actually, I would probably not notice the rips, and think that it was some awesome original music, because I've never played FFX-2 and many many others. I have played FF6, and I will kill the person who uses the victory music. _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great."

I'm being lazy and not actually looking into this, but is there any evidence that HamsterWheel will play mod music? Because that can sound way better than midi . . . _________________ UP DOWN UP DOWN LEFT LEFT RIGHT RIGHT A B START |

Gauranteed:
BAM (if James feels like it)
MIDI
WAV
OGG
Maybe:
MOD (requires license fee or somesuch for the current popular implementation if you want to sell a program using it)
MP3 (also requires license) _________________

Hmm.. if you want to sell the program? Then either Jame would have to pay the fee, not allow people to sell games they create with HamsterWheel, or ask people to pay the fee themselves if they sell their games...
I doubt James will pay it, it's probably huge. _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |

Looks like the author changed the license. It's now freeware, apparently

Also, MP3 licensing details

Yeah, probably not going to be seeing mp3 playback. _________________
