As I'm sure comes as a surprise to all that remember me.
That isn't the only point of this thread, because that would be a waste of bits.
If anyone remembers an old mini game called MIA, an OHR espionage game, I decided to head back into an OHR Espionage game this week-end, starting from scrap. The results are good- and the game runs smoothly(not slow like that cruddy lil MIA release)
Features so far include:
2 cameras (1 rotates, the other is stationary)
1 patrolling guard
2 Alert Guards*
An alert system similar to Metal Gear's
Ability to go through Air Vents
Ability Hide in places (3 hiding places so far)
Lighting(to some degree... just a funny little effect really)
The Alert system appears when you are spotted (either by a guard or a camera). It begins with a Red Alert Bar, and the guards chase you. Two "Alert Guards" come out of an "Alert" door, and begin chasing you as well. After "red Alert" is "Yellow Alert"(equivalen of the evasion phase of Metal Gear). The guard switches to wandering (the wander movetype) around looking for you. After the Yellow Alert ends, teh two Alert Guards leave through the Alarm Door, and teh normal gaurd returns to his patrolling- you're clear to go.
The Guard sees 4 tiles ahead of him, but it will soon become a 4 x 4 section of tiles (if that runs smoothly). The cameras see in a rectangle 3 tiles wide, 4 tiles long.
Graphics are nothing to write home about- pretty much average, kept minimalist so you can identify hiding places easier, and to give it a cartoonish look.
This pretty impressive little scipt will have a demo of its abilities on Thursday. I won't be here next week because I'm going on vacation, but feel free to post all your input though while I'm gone- I'll read everything when I return.

thanks
I know yesterday was when I was going to release the demo, but unfortunately the conspiracy known as "life" got in the way. I got stuck with about 5 pages of homework and everybody in the family decided they HAD to use the computer with internet connection. Tonight I hope to get it out -for sure!
Also as an added bonus, I'll toss in a few more features. (probably a boss fight thing). From what I've tested, the game plays pretty smoothly, which is REALLY good on the computer I'm using because it usually doesn't like DOS, so games on OHR sometimes move slow even if they don't have any plotscripting ro NPCs.
Right now I'm in school so I can't do anything.
So sometime tonight, before 10:00 if all goes well(which it rarely does).
Since I don't have time to organize a test group (vacation tomorrow 'n all) this will be like a test release.
PM me about any errors. I'd especially like to know if the game jams (or slows down) at any point, which point, and if it does that every time. _________________ *VW has left the building* |

The game's up here:
http://www.castleparadox.com/forum/gamelist-display.php?game=386
Unfortunately, destiny took part again, and stopped me from acieving some things I wanted to add (it lacks a boss figt and a weapon )
But at least it is out. I didn't have time to type a readme because my dad is bugging me about the computer right now, so I'll give you the run down here:
Controls are simple, arrows move your guy. Basicly, you walk into stuff for the guy to hide or enter the place. There's a hold up part where the controls are told to you then. Simple, huh? You betcha. Enemies "see" about 4 sqaures ahead of them. If you touch them, game over, immediately. If they see you, it goes to RED ALERT, and the chase is on. YELLOW ALERT follows, and finally the guards leave. Hide during these alert periods to avoid getting caught.
Errors I'm aware of (if you run into these don't tell me, I already know about them and will fix them once I get back from vacation)
- When you die, sometimes a piece of your guy appears at the "shooting" title screen.
- the guard sometimes gets misalgined in the hallway
- the guards walk through you when you're hiding and it doesn't catch you
Although it may sound buggy, it plays through better than it sounds (usually)
I didn't have time to thoroughly test the hold-up part, so please try that out.
IF YOU GET STUCK READ THESE
You can hide in the shadows, tires, cabinets, and air-vents.
Cameras see wider than guards (for now).
If you can't get past the rotating camera, wait until it looks away, then run into the tires, wait for it to look away again, and then run out- simple as that.
Please note, this demo is a test of the script. The game itself will probably have a completely different start, and have an actual plot.
PM me any errors, and enjoy.[/url] _________________ *VW has left the building* |

Is it ok that you don't have a screen shot up for this game? We talked about uploading games and I think it was Cn who was rather firm that you had to have a screen shot... Just wondering. We don't it taken off the game list, now do we.
PS: It's been a couple days up there right? Maybe it's ok... _________________ Planning Project Blood Summons, an MMORPG which will incinerate all of the others with it's sheer brilliance...

I tested out the game myself and realized the entire scientist part was crap, so I'd like to say sorry for the amount of frustration it probably caused and believe me, I'm equally frustrated that my game demo was so bad. I got in such a rush to upload it I didn't test it.
Anyways, in the future this won't happen again, I'll test the game more thoroughly, and hopefully won't set a deadline on such a busy week.
Also, please don't think that this was any show of what OHR Gear will be like when it comes it out- it won't be this buggy.
As for the screenshot thingy, I didn't know about that and will upload a picture ASAP. _________________ *VW has left the building* |
