Looks good to me. Although they have a little rip look to them. It's probally just the whole black outline thing. Fools me everytime I guess. I generally tend to stay away from that, because it rarely ever looks good in games that I have made. The only time my black outlines were good were in SmokeyMcGoo's Grand Adventure. Other than that I say they look good dude. _________________ ---------------Projects----

The trees are too uniform. Trees don't grow like that in nature. But your maptiles are really good. I think the NPC could use some work, though. It's all blue, with little shading from what I can see (except the hair). You should make hair and clothes two different colors since as an NPC, the same colors for hair and costume tend to make them look like they're part of the same thing (to me at least). _________________ My name is...

it does have shading on the hero its just i doesnt look like it because of the resizing of the picture, and it does have out lines so it looks like armor in the proper graphics

I'd give him the benefit of the doubt on the trees, because the snow ones are rather nice.
However, the roof tiles are obviously stolen. Weird, though. (warning: off topic) I based my slanty roof tiles off FF6's (for Stop) and they look a lot like yours, Fenrir. I guess we used a similar model? (Narche in the snow...?)
Eh, whatever. Stealing is bad. BAD BOY. _________________ But enough talk, have at you! |

Eh, the trees don't look similar enough, and that is a common roof style. Also, Xaero's roofs don't have the repeating of the grid-lines. I've used the same idea(but shaded with my uber air-bucket) repeatedly. However, that snow looks like a re-color of FF4's moon overworld.

It's probably only a coincidence really. My tiles are slightly darker. I agree they're probably ripped, but from where, now that's a good question. |

I know I am near the back of the line here, but wow! Those put everything I have ever made (most of the good stuff that hasn't been seen even) to shame!
The Roof coincidence is funny. They are identicle twins!
How long have you been at this, Xaero? If these are truely your work, then it is the work of a born Grafics Artist. I don't have any doubts one way or the other...
The trees are much more stout than the ones Fen has. And the snow litles look quite repeditive in some places. That is ok though, because it is much more simple and quick to use two or three different tiles on snow and grass than to make it more random. (too random that is)
PS: Shame on us for assuming these were ripped... What if they weren't?
ANyway, this area of the forum can be for ORIGINAL art only, or just showing how you layed out your game's grafics wether they be ripped or not ripped... I wasn't pointing to the tree, rather the bend of the roof tiles and the specific placement of where the highlight on each tile was. Since it's Jpeged, It's difficult to tell if it's actually ripped or not, compared to the higher detailed PNG file. The only way to settle whether the roof tiles are ripped is to compare spritesheets. And here are the results...
The score (for those who are keeping track) is now Fenrir-0, Karma-Eleventybillion.

Honestly they are not ripped, ive never played ff4 or whatever the other game with the roof is, but really the only thing about the roof tiles is the size of each tiles, and beacause 2 and 4 divide nicely into 20 they have the same size and the shading is pretty much always the same no matter who draws it if its coming from the same direction and the angles are mostly about 45 when you draw stuff but the other one is more centre aligned and my one is left aligned, i gave the hero an outline because if they are walking on a similar coloured tile it looks bad, my last game had some good graphics but was really rushed so its a bit messed up but really some of them are pretty good and pratice makes them better.
And if you really want proof i didn't rip them ask Catfish he was at my house when i drew the roof tiles but he is currently on holiday for 2 weeks.

So what if the roof tiles look similar? It's a pretty simple design. I think Xaero probably has the ability to come up with a grid of rectangles on his own.
The graphics are pretty nice. A little griddy, especially with the trees, but they show some definite promise. I find it odd that the snow on the trees is a completely different color than the snow on the ground. |

Well now that the roof question is settled, I don't have to worry about it. This is actually surprisingly similar to what happened recently with Longetech and his game that he was calling Genesis, while there was already one named that without his knowing. This has something to do with Chaos Theory, but that's another topic that deals with monkeys on typewriters eventually writing the entire script of Othello by pure coincidence.
While I'm at it, excellent graphics. Keep it up and you'll surpass me. Then you'll be asked to write a graphics tutorial by the community. Just watch. |
