I've been rather pleased with how well and quickly I progressed from sucky to somewhat decent walkabout graphics, and since I showed a small sum of people, I figured I'd show the rest of the community as well.

http://www.geocities.com/minnek9/Images/NewPartisan.png <-- Now

Thanks to Shadowiii and his review for inspiring me to greater heights with my graphics, and the other people who contributed, even in the slightest. Any comments anyone? Heck, bash it, I'm so pleased I probably wouldn't notice XD Anyways, just wanted to show you guys since I'm so darned pleased.

Interesting, I'm not having any problems. Are you copying and pasting the links into the address bar?

That is quite a bit of improvement within a short period of time, I must say.

Now for some constructive criticism... It's good that you've shown he actually takes steps, however it looks like a very large step, or (for yet another bad analogy of mine! fun!) like he's about to do the splits. Also, the shading on the legs looks like random dots, they should be connected a little bit.

On the frontal and back views, there's no line between his arms and his body, so his arms look very short.

His hair is also flat and uninteresting. Asymetry is a bit difficult, but you get the hang of it fairly soon.

His overall body follows a straight line, and so he looks very robotic.

On the side view, his arms should be set back more, otherwise it looks very odd with the shoulders lining up with the neck. Also, there's a double-black line at the eyes, something that should be avoided at all costs. Solve this by putting a few pixels of skin colour between his eyes and the outline.

Next, this is more of a stylistic thing, his head should be bigger. If you don't like that style, don't use it, but I personally don't know how you can draw sprites with realistic proportions and still be able to convey expressions, make them look interesting, and generally have an easy time drawing them. Again, it's just stylistic thing, but I dunno how you'd manage them otherwise...

Lastly, it's overall a lot of improvement within a very short period of time. If you keep improving at this rate, you'll be great at graphics in no time.

He does have a rather stiff posture, but I think it suits his character in a way... the rest of my characters need a more lax posturing, though, so that's good advice Big grin As for the hair, I'm going to work on that, but no guarantees I'll have anything better for a while, pixelated hair isn't my forte. I will try, though. I looked at the shading on the pants, and though I had meant those to be wrinkles and folds and such in the clothing, they do look more like speckles. I'm going to try to fix that as well as I can. I'm looking into fixing the arms on the front and back views in the way that you stated, but I'm thinking that may be more of a style thing for me, because my characters don't look right without the stubby arms Oookay... I'll see what I can do about compromising so both arguement points are at least somewhat happy. Emotions of my characters... after studying how Fenrir did his, I managed my own, so my style's able to work with 'em. (I still have slightly bigger heads than normal... interesting.) As for the side views, I can't really help the black colliding with the black eyes, BUT now that I've optimized my pallette, I can change Partisan's and Pandoran's eye colors to the appropriate ones. Which means the black line won't seep into them. As for the walking thing left to right, I noticed that but I've failed to figure out how to remedy it as of yet...I'm going to have to make the legs more steep in angle. Anyway, thanks for the criticism, it helps a lot. I'm going to go fix up these problems now, and hopefully have a new update for everyone to gaze at and be lost in eternal ..... disgust. Heh. Off to the drawing board (literally.) Thanks again Big grin

oh now i see them.
you have improved a fair amount.

two things that does worry me is the arms and hair, other than that the picture is find as is. (you may want to make the pants colours less distinct and make them mould into each other.)

Intriguing suggestion. I may just do that... *wanders off to try it* I'll get back to you on it. As for my future updates, I'll post about them in here, but it'll all be on the following page:

http://www.geocities.com/minnek9/Artwork.htm

Heh. That sums it up.

Heh. Good job, but I still think that the sideways walking grafics look like Partisan is an inchworm, or something. Or like the crazy squeeky guy. His legs both go out similtaneously, then come back in. Prolly should take the advise I gave you yesterday, when I was at your house (raiding your candy supplies)... Make the legs switch instead of come in, and/or make them not go out quite so far... Heh, sorry to knock you down ol buddy! Big grin

It is quite an improvement, but I think his head looks like it's a bit too far back, even in the new ones. I normally extend the chin one or two pixels further than the chest, but that might just be me...

Ah! Unc, I've noticed that he does indeed look better with the neck back another pixel, but I can't (am too lazy) to fix that right now. I'm going to see what I can do though...maybe this extra pixel on the front of his face may allow for that line of flesh pixels in front of his eyes! Or something. Le soupir... why must I be lazy! =X

Leroy, I told him (after he said that he was having trouble with his extensions) that I always end my webpages with .html
That's the advice he's taking.

*grumbles* stupid Geocities. I'm probably going to move to another one of these site hosting places eventually.... or something. Anyway, I'm still trying to get the stupid Artwork page to show the things right, but it keeps showing the pics as broken links. Everything looks right, too, I went and checked. So I dropped the bad code until I get it fixed.

I don't know how you manage with Geocities; I used it once and it never worked. Note to all people with websites: Get 1asphost! Now!

Or it could be Front Page, if that's what you're using, a truly evil program.
