This game sucks. But the question is: how do I prevent it from sucking as much as the original?
Any suggestions? _________________ "I didn't start the flame war;

Sure, this game is 30 seconds long with only one graphic.
Sure, this game sucks. |
How is this even considered a game in the first place? |

My Japanese is a bit rusty, but shouldn't that be "Okami no Densetsu"? _________________

That it should, Moogle. "Densetsu no Okami" translates to "Legendary Wolf/Wolf of Legend." I saw that mistake, but was too lazy to fix it last time. I decided to go with "Legendary Wolf" for the subtitle, because Densetsu comes before Okami in the English alphabet.
In an unrelated story, I have screenshots. I was going to show them last time, but my screen froze and I wound up automatically logging out in the middle of the reply.
I took a few pointers from the Pixel Artist tutorial(which I've actually read three times since the initial release of Wolf's Quest). However, I liked the Final Fantasy Adventure grass more than that of most other RPGs, so I figured I'd emulate that. And I like a griddy feeling; it helps me feel I'm playing an RPG.
I really love the ability to customize the menus, and to disable some menus with tags. This way Akira's only options are those that would actually be useful to him; Spells, Status, Quit, and Volume.
Unfortunately, I haven't drawn any backdrops yet. All in good time.
I really love the new death effects; I plan to use every one of them at least once, maybe OVER NINE THOUSAND times. _________________ "I didn't start the flame war;

Did you read every other article I hot linked? _________________

Yes. I found them very entertaining and informative.
It caused me to totally rethink the way I've been handling battles; until now, they'be always been about attack and healing spells. I also started actually planning stuff out on a text file, instead of doing it all in my head and hoping to remember when I get to that part.
I also decided, after reading that, to return to the old form in RPGs; there's only two truly reliable healers in the main party, and reviving is hard. The basic revive spell is learned by Wolf and Zera fairly early on, but it costs 20 MP, takes 150 ticks to cast, and restores 1 HP. Only Zera can use spells to heal the entire party, and only Zera can use the spell that fully restores health. Only Zera learns the better revive spells. And the revive spells can miss when used in battle(I'm thinking like Dragon Warrior, my favorite RPG series).
I read all those articles, and I found them very helpful. _________________ "I didn't start the flame war;

I updated again. I added a different yell for the FireBall spell, so that it doesn't sound so much like Blaze. I also drew graphics for the healing and fire spells.
HADOUKEN!
Sure, it looks puny.
Hit me while you can. You won't be laughing soon.
BOOM!
I may not be good at drawing, but that attack would be neat if someone else sprited it. That cube took 250 damage. _________________ "I didn't start the flame war;

The culmination of the red eyes, the fire, and the smiling boxes really fits the part of a hero. The furry just tops it off.
Question: do you play the savior, or the anti-christ in this game? _________________

Who wouldn't want to kill me?

Agreed. We need more fire-using red-eyed furries to be main heroes in games.

The savior. Personally, the only villain I've ever enjoyed playing was Wario. _________________ "I didn't start the flame war;

The penultimate battle between good and evil; but what's this? There's a chance of losing the first boss battle? Say it isn't so!
The Snow spell launches many small, sharp, freezing snowflakes at the enemies; and a snowball that looks a little bit like a hand.
The Blizzard spell his all enemies with ice shuriken the size of human fists.
Some argue that the sword is a phallic symbol; I retort that anything longer than it is wide can be interpreted as a phallic symbol by someone who already has sex on the mind.
At level 88, Akira learns several devastating moves designed specifically for fighting bosses. This one is called IceSickle. _________________ "I didn't start the flame war;

It's update time again.
After taking this screenshot, I realised that I needed to darken Wolf's clothes a little; the bright green and bright cyan were too close to eachother, and the dark green blended in with the battle backdrop too well.
After taking this one, I realised that I'd have to start a new file for the palette change to take effect.
There goes ten minutes of gametesting _________________ "I didn't start the flame war;

Here's a couple of screenshots from the changed palette. I still didn't like it much, as the new bright green was essentially the same as the old dark green.
Much better. Wolf is darker overall; I figured if I was going to change his clothes, I'd might as well make all the colors better.
But now I have to brighten the bamboo pole.
And as you can see, I added a few town things to the town. Now there's brick wall, tiles, and carpet. _________________ "I didn't start the flame war;
