Why do Americans not give a shit about the World Cup?
For the record, I had just heard of it THIS YEAR when I noticed it had taken over Youtube. There must be some explanation. |

Because it's not as interesting as the INTERNATIONAL HOT DOG EATING COMPETITION. |

I'm not sure American's don't give a shit about the world cup. Most of my friends were really into it, even after the US was out. And I remember the bars being packed during the finals. (I certainly don't give a shit about the world cup, but then, I don't give a shit about OUR football either) |

I'm gonna go with "Don't win," but the truth is that if you live near a lot of foreigners, the Americans are more likely to care about the Cup. _________________

My theory is that soccer doesn't have enough scoring. That's why I don't like it, anyway. At least in women's soccer they occasionally take their tops off. |

Seriously, I think it's partially because of the nonstop action. No time between plays means very few commercials. Compare to American football - commercials everywhere. Economically less desireable to advertisers and broadcasters.
Also it has less VIOLENCE. Although Zidane might've helped this time in that respect.
However, most people I know in this country who actually tried watching the Cup (any of the games, not just the final match) reported becoming instantly addicted. I think the biggest reason for soccer/football's lack of popularity in the US is just apathy on the part of those who haven't watched it before. _________________ UP DOWN UP DOWN LEFT LEFT RIGHT RIGHT A B START |

I'm English, and I detest football... It's so boring!! It should be like it was in those Budweiser adverts... Its just watching a load of men kick some ball round some field... American football is so much more exciting, at least it has some action... _________________ Ollan hiljaa, saadaan kaloja. |
