I'm doing this thread as a reference to me about all the RPGs coming out for the DS in the future. I know Fen's got an FF3 thread, but there will be minimal overlap. Just comment on the RPGs announced, add details I missed, and post new RPG details if I haven't yet.

ASH: Archaic Sealed Heat Release: TBA
I know, like, nothing about this game. Here’s what IGN says about it: ASH is about an ancient flame that was sealed away long ago. The game focuses on Queen Aisha, who is on a quest to understand the flame because her people who were burnt by the flame are in the process of being revived. Along the way, she'll meet up with people who've traveled back in time from the future, come into contact with a mystery that's been buried beneath the earth since ancient times, and become entangled in other mysterious affairs. During the tactical RPG battles, the game seems to use the top screen to show an overhead view of the entire field of play with the bottom screen showing a behind-the-back view of your character. The only other thing I know about this game is that it is being created by Hironobu Sakaguchi (Creator of Final Fantasy), and that it uses pre-rendered CG for its battle visuals. Also, and what is most intriguing to me, you play the game “exclusively with the stylus”. The genre was described by the creator as "Team Tactics." It sounds intriguing, if nothing else. No screenshots yet.

Final Fantasy III Release: TBA
You probably know about this one from Fen's thread. Basically, it's Final Fantasy III, but it has a huge graphical upgrade. From the screens I've seen, it reminds me of how FFIX looked. I'm pretty excited about it. First off, I've never played FFIII, but I'm also eager to see how well a 3D RPG can work on the DS. If it's sucessful, hopefully it will sway some more developers over to the DS.

Harvest Moon: Korobokkle Station Release: 1.06(?)
The game I've been looking forward to since before the DS was released, is getting pushed back over and over again. Right now they say "TBA 2006", but it's rumored to be released sometime next January. It's Harvest Moon, everybody's favorite Farming Simulator, but it's on the DS obviously. Touch screen functonality seems to be for animal interaction (milking cows, whiping horses, sheering sheep, etc) but there might be more. I'm just happy for a new Harvest Moon. The graphics look...exactly like Friends of Mineral Town for the GBA, which is kind of disapointing (The DS is capable of AT LEAST something like Harvest Moon for the PSX), but the gameplay is really the only thing that matters with this game.

Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time Release: 11.28.05
Mario & Luigi was an extremely fun RPG for the GBA, and it's looking to continue on the DS. You control both Mario & Luigi, and you work with each other during the turn-based battles. Also, baby Mario and Luigi have key parts, and time travel is probably an element. The screens look pretty good.

Mysterious Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer DS Release: TBA
Nothing is known about this game at this time, but the Mysterious Dungeon series has been going on for a while. From what I can tell, it's in a somewhat SD art style, and it looks like you wander around in dungeons a lot. You can probably expect something similar.

Tingle RPG Release: TBA
This game was only just announced. I thought everyone hated Tingle...but he gets his own RPG apparently. Yeah, I don't know either.

Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Release: TBA 2006
New Pokémon games! Even if you hated the Pokémon-insanity of the late 90's, early 00's, you have to admit that the games were pretty fun. The resulting spin-offs of Yellow, Gold, Silver, Ruby and Sapphire failed to capture the original excitement of Pokémon, but hopefully the DS ones will bring something new to the table. We've kind of had the same engine since 96, and I could really go for something new. Considering how much development time is going into these games, we can only hope. I also hope they don't try to stretch out the gameplay by adding 1000 new pokémon, but they actually make the quest longer. Internet battling and trading is an extremely exciting idea. Come on, Game Freak, make it work!

XENOSAGA I & II Release: TBA
This game's announcement was certainly a surprise to me. The DS is a little weak on the games with an enormous amount of depth, and suddenly this game pops up. TWO 50 hour games? That's like, the amount of gameplay in all my other DS games put together. I haven't played the original Xenosagas, but I still look forward to this one. The graphical style has been described as "flat", and it is a little. The sprites remind me of Golden Sun, and the backgrounds are pretty bland as well. Also it's locked in an isometric camera angle. I have yet to see any shots of the battle system. The graphics aren't a huge deal, though, if the game manages to deliver on its promise of 100 hours of (quality?) gameplay. Anyone who has played Xenosaga I & II for the PS2 should comment on the quality of the games.

This list isn't completed yet. I'll be adding more details and games whenever I can, so stay tuned to this page. Feel free to discuss, though, and add new data I might have missed.

I haven't played Xenosaga II but Xenosaga I was god-awful. If it had been left the perfect movie it could have been, I would have loved it. Xenogears is pretty good, though; just get it and ignore Xenosaga altogether.

As for Pokémon, I disagree: Gold & Silver are better than the originals by far. The first installments of the game were good, but plagued by horrible balancing and weird glitches. Ruby & Sapphire are good too, but a little bland. I would recommend new players get the Crystal version and ignore the rest of the series OR just get NetBattle and try the game online for a while. I don't care too much about Diamond & Pearl, but it will be interesting to see if they incorporate touchscreen somehow.

Harvest Moon has gone downhill since the original, big-time.

Mario & Luigi 2 looks awesome.

A giant, flaming "WTF" at Tingle RPG.

JSH:
I disliked Gold and Silver only because I thought adding 100 new pokemon was a crappy way to pump more life in the series. I want my Charmander, danggit ;_;

That's too bad about Xenosaga. True, our opinions tend to differ when it comes to RPGs, but I know what you mean when you say it could be a great movie. Hopefully, since the DS is much less suited for cinematic games than the PS2, the gameplay will take a step closer to center stage. Or it will be a CUTSCENE FEST.

Harvest Moon started out ok, then it got better with HM64 and it peaked at HM:BTN (PSX). I wasn't a fan of the 3D versions, but I liked Friends of Mineral Town a lot (probably because it was so similar to HM:BTN.) So I have high hopes for a new, 2D Harvest Moon adventure.

SURLAW:
"Tingle RPG" was the working title Nintendo gave it.

I didn't know that Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon was from the same series. That's pretty awesome.

EDIT: I'll add Lunar: Dragon Song, soon, but it's not really important to me since, as you said, it is apparently of the crappy persuasion

EDIT 2: Combined two posts into one.

Heheh. I had 138 on my Blue version, but I lost the cartridge. I was so crushed at the time (I was 11). Funnily enough, I found the cartridge a few weeks ago.

Anyway, back on topic. :P

Tingles one of the funniest characters... in a sad way. He's 30 years old, wears a green leotard, and floats around making maps. I hope I'm that free spirited when I'm that old. Also he wants to be a fairy!!! Cuuuuute :3
