Them's Fightin'

As far as I can tell, this game follows the adventure of a guy named Phil, who on his birthday is given his father's sword. He has a recurring dream about the death of his father. In the dream, he is the one who kills his father instead of the real murderer. At the end of the dream, his father tells him he must find the Geo Crystal. So with sword in hand, Phil ventures out to find the Geo Crystal.
However at this point, there is not much you can do. The town is shallow and uninteresting (You shouldn't have to walk up three flights of stairs in the hotel to discover that there is nothing up there). Some people talk to you but none of them says anything that is really worth mentioning. Afterwards you are supposed to find the Geo Doctor, but he doesn't seem to exist yet. As far as I know that is the end of the demo, there is no more. Even with debug keys I couldn't find anything else to do. I would have appreciated the creator putting in an NPC or something that told me it was the end of the demo.
The game did not especially impress me, but its not without its good points. What I really liked about this game, is that although the creator seems to be new to the engine, they have thoroughly explored many plotscripting commands. The game starts off with an interesting credit sequence, and there are interesting plotscripts throughout the short demo. Although a lot of them are pretty buggy.

Final Scores
|
Graphics: 4/10.0 |
There is distinct use of shading and texturing, but altogether the graphics are flat and sharp, making them rather uninteresting. A bit more practice with pixel techniques could go a long way.
|
Storyline: 1.5/10.0
|
I like the basis of the storyline, but it needs to be presented in a more in-depth manner. Buggy plotscripting prevented me from hearing some of the story which took away from the little development there was. |
Gameplay: 3/10.0 |
The game is full of bugs and I think the creator could learn a lot from further practice with the engine. But I do admire the way that someone new to the engine has already explored a fair bit of the capabilities of plotscripting.

Music: 2.5/10.0
|
The only music I could hear (perhaps at the fault of my computer) was pretty much just the town and shop music, both were taken from the engine. The credit sequence could really benefit from some music and the music could be a lot more interesting. |
Overall Grade:

Final Thoughts |

|
As of now, this game doesn't leave me impressed. But because I like the basis of the story, I am positive that with work, this could become a very enjoyable game. It will be interesting to see where the creator takes it. |
