Hamster Wrench

This is a replacement for HssEd, written by me. The link above leads to the Wiki page I created for it, which doubles as the readme. It works similarly to HssEd, but without the bugs.

This is an alpha release. It's nearly finished, but for a few graphical/informational touch-ups. However, I want people to try it out, play around with it, etc, and see if they can find any bugs before I make it official.

Questions, Comments, Criticisms, or any other nouns starting with a "K" sound should be posted to this thread, or the Talk page of the wiki (this thread is prefered)

Woa, hey. This is pretty nifty. I used to always use Notepad, but this beats the pants off that, obviously..

Question: Is the default background color supposed to be the same color as the foreground color (black on black)?
That's what it was when I started this.

~ Could not find Raekuul's bug. Make sure you have the .Net Framework 1.1 before trying to run this sucker! It's linked from the Wiki page!

Since I know I'll be saying this line every time I release a new version, the downloads will always be linked from the wiki page.

I should point out, the incorrect background colour was merely the default being wrong. So, if you've already run it, and have black-on-black text, it won't be fixed. You need to manually go into the Tools-Options->View dialog, and fix it.

Yeah. I fixed that last night. (My new default is Blue on white. Wink

)

File > New > Tools > Options > Style options > Foreground color for text, background color for background. Just for anyone who didn't know.

Except that you don't need to open a new window to change the settings. They're global.

True, but that wasn't why I opened a new document. When a new document didn't open when I first ran this application, I freaked out for a second. I'm used to a new document opening by default, so I can see the outcome of any changes I make. I assumed that there was another person who was the same way.

You're right, though. Not necessary, but doesn't hurt.

Hmm, perhaps I should make it open a new document on startup then. And, maybe an option to open the last document... wait, you can have more than one. Maybe, open the last set of documents?

That's sounds cool. Open them in cascading mode by default, or something. This way I can select the most recent document or a new document. Big grin

I don't really see any advantages over HSSED, to be honest.

I can't get it to work with Hspeak. It just locks up and does nothing.

Lack of a search feature is annoying, but I assume this is on the to-do list.

I do like the lack of that bug where hssed would spit out random errors when I highlighted things!
