The shading is better on the second bird, but it looks like it's just been shot or had a sudden heart attack.

The "old man" looks more like a young woman in both versions. Why does his beard extend outside of his face to the right? Why doesn't his beard cover the rest of his face to the left? The shading is better on the first one.

I like the first bird and the second old man. The lighting on the first old man doesn't make any sense. I prefer the first bird because it's easier to see what it is. Also, it has more color and character.

To be honest, they all look like "gradient" to me.

Yeah, he does look like a little girl....haha. I will work on him some more tonight and post another draft when I can. I'm gonna change the robe color from the blue to a dirty grey/brown as well, which might help some. Not sure which way I'm going to go with the shading yet.

Wow, everybody is going for the first bird. That is surprising. I thought he looked like dookie then again....they probably both look like dookie. I'm testing around with the non-black outline look some. Maybe it isn't as great as I thought it would be. Here is a pic of the new bird with a background....does it make it any better or is it still looking in favor of bird #1?

Any suggestions, or is that it?

Well, you're pretty much using pillow-shading to color all of your images.
This basically means, the lighting on your images could be better.

This tutorial should help you out quite a bit.

Thanks for the info. I was actually following a tutorial with the new bird, but this one you've mentioned seems a lot more useful. I will give it a shot Razz

Would this be considered any better?

It still looks like it just got shot or maybe sucker-punched. Have you ever seen a completely vertical bird? Okay, maybe a hummingbird -- but yours isn't a hummingbird.

Bloodsucking hummingbirds: I'd be scared.

I guess the stance could use a little more work. I guess it would make more sense if he wasn't straight up like that.

I've been doing all this at work, but I will try and make him a little different when I get home.

The first bird looked a lil more preportionate than the other one. Dispite how boring it looked. The second one looks like it's head is on the edge of it's wing, kinda making it look like it's retarded.

Your backdrops are pretty good though.

He's flapping his wings! He's not retarded nor has he been kidney-shotted!

But yeah it does look like he is though....

I guess, if the pose needs fixing so badly (I was pretty impressed by how much the shading and coloring improved), just have the wings folded upward to send the message that the bird is flapping his wings.

EDIT:

Thanks, I will tinker around with it some more. If I can't get anything better, then the dead bird stays! Happy

Old man #3 is up...let me know what you think!
