Yeah, I mean like, no cut and pasting, no refreshing or any of that shit. All that's necessary is renaming an image to a .txt.
I'll explain how.

First off, you problem can't see file extensions, so you'll have to enable that.
Open the folder(s) that contain the image(s) you want to show, and click Tools ---> Folder Options ---> View.
Look in Advanced Options, and look for 'Hide extentions for known file types.'
Now that that's over, rename your image to a .txt file(I do NOT need to give instructions.. hopefully).
Then, upload it to Geocities(I know it sucks, but direct linking, like, works) and it should show just fine.

How are we going to see the image if it's in text format?

oh, and while we're on the topic: please don't use .bmp, it makes the file about 9287436565 times as big as it needs to be.

So what exactly is the reason to put it in .txt format? .jpg and .gif work just fine. All you have to do is upload to a site that allows direct linking (and has a stable server).

Generally telling people to do something and then withholding explanation is not a good plan.

The reason for putting it in .txt is because it makes the image directly linkable.
The reasons for putting it in Geocities instead of a direct image hoster is 1) it corrupts images all the time(Villagephotos blurs JPGs horribly.). Not to mention that Geocities is well known.

There are many places that allow for direct linking of images, so that's really no reason to put it into a txt format. Or you could easliy spend 5 seconds with notepad or front page and make an html page with the images on it. It's easier for the viewer cause they don't have to download the .txt file and then convert it to an image.

You're missing the point entirely. The .txt of the image shows up as the image itself.

Topcities allows what your talking about. This "direct" linking is something I have been doing for years. I never thought that It wouldn't be included in other hosts, but then again I have never tried other host sites so how would I know?

Well, I am skeptical about that (and far too lazy to test it), but hey, if it works, go with it.

I discovered this on Gamingforce. Ask Aeth. He may recall a signature image I sent him as a .txt.

MCM's write, Ibby. Geocities doesn't allow remote image linking, but text is a different story. Normally the person actually wouldn't have to download the file and "re-convert" it, because internet browsers usually display text fles, and definitely image files.

If you would have to download it and "re-convert" it, it's because you're computer is stupid (or rather, more stupid than ours, since all computers are stupid, as everyone knows). Thanks for the tip, MCM.

Understanding is so much easier when you're actually listening.
