My idea is not very developed yet. Basically, a city is being ransacked to find a certain VHS tape. The group doing the ransacking is controlled by a former demon whose demon-ness is trapped within the "demon tape". One of the buildings is controlled by the hero, who is out of the city on a business trip.
The inbetween details I have not thought up yet. _________________

I'm not planning on having it quite so Ring-related though. _________________

Welcome to the community!
the idea sounds very interesting, it being in a VHS tape insted of something cliche like a crown, or a crystal.
reminds me of this south park episode i saw once. |

It's set in a kinda cyperpunk setting with magic still around. There might be signs like "No Bolt magic past this point", or something. _________________

VHS is basically just a standardized plastic housing for protecting a small reel-to-reel of magnetic tape. The data on that magnetic tape is normally PAL or NTSC encoded video, but it could just as easily be any other data.
For example, you could translate the Necronomicon Ex Mortis into ASCII with some sort of ECC and write it onto the tape with a ArVid drive or similar. If you put it in a VHS player, it would probably just look like the snowy static of a blank tape, but if you read the data as text, the Evil Tome would be there. |
