I'm just interested in what type of music everyone expects from an RPG. List 2 of your favorite slow, mellow themes and 2 upbeat OR maestoso(grand, for you non-musicians(I don't think I spelled that right.))tunes(hate that word.) 2 battles( or 1 if you can only think of one.) 2 Dungeons. Add more than 2 if you can or want to. You can add less too or bring up a new topic. (Sorry if this post has been done before.)

Mellow
Aeris's Death- Love it because it starts out small and simple on a piano(or was it a harpsichord?) and then builds to amazing orchestration.
Managarm's theme- I don't know what it is, but I like it.

Battle
Surrendering Fear- from Crescent Dream.
Major Enemy Battle- from Super Mario RPG. It's kooky.
FF(?)- I got this one in the same package of the Super Mario RPG Music. It was called ffculex. It's in Arfenhouse 3. I can tell it's FF because of it's bassline in the beginning, a Nobuo Trademark.

Dungeon
SMRPG Forest Maze- Hands down, the best forest music to date.
The jazzy FF7 theme- This one is played while on the train tracks.
FF7- this is the place where Cait Sith takes the Black Materia.

Upbeat
FF7 World Map- Definitely
FF7 Intro- The one where Cloud jumps off the train.

Sorry I don't know the names to the songs. Please, add.

Culex was a secret battle in Super Mario RPG. However, the battle theme sounds remarkably similar (exactly the same, even) as the boss theme from Final Fantasy 4.

Also, NOBUO (along with Koji Kondo) WAS ONE OF THE MUSIC CONSULTANTS FOR SUPER MARIO RPG, SILLY.
IT WAS A SQUARE GAME, AFTER ALL.

Slow
Melodies of Life (instrumental) - It's soothing and relaxing
Eyes on me (piano) - I still can't forget the tune in my head!

Grand
Waltz for the Moon - this tune was played when Squall and Rinoa danced for the first time
Melodies of Life (orchestral version) - played when Zidane chased Garnet for the first time

Battle
Chrono Cross - I don't know the title, but it's good!
Suikoden II - I know it's plain, but I still like it.

Dungeon
I can't think of any tunes!!!!!! Ha ha ha!

(((Inner Setu: Please excuse and don't take offense to the following comment, as the frustration expressed has nothing to do with you, but rather with others I have debated with in the past on this subject, namely -- people I work around, no one from CP)))

Damnit, how many times to I have to say it!!!! It all depends on the production's atmosphere! If you're making a drama, it needs mellow; if you're making an epic, it needs to be spectacular!! To specify what type of music you need in a production is the same as saying it should be that way with all of them!!!

*huff huff* There. I said it.

Xenogears has the best RPG music I've ever heard. ALL of Mitsuda's songs in XG are better than most of Uematsu's music, even. Both his work in Chrono Trigger and in Xenogears are direct proof that he's the stronger musician by far.

Uematsu wrote one or two of the songs in Chrono Trigger, but the majority is by Mitsuda, with Uematsu's assistance.

I'm not quite understanding what you're talking about Setu.

I just wanted to get an idea of favorite songs from RPGs in this community and possibly learn of a few new songs and/or composers.

But what you said is true, if creating a drama it needs mellow and so forth.

On a side note(I do quite a bit of those), is Sir Leonhart you? You're name is on the author slot but on the screen it says Sir Leonhart.

Moogle1, how couldn't you tell? Xenogears has the very same musical feel as Chrono Trigger.

And Calehay, everyone in Realmsoft is just a figment of Setu Firestorm's imagination. He's the entire production team.

No way! Xenogears is so much more Celtic. (Or maybe I've listened to too much Creid.) Either way, I'm going back and listening to them, at which point I'll probably feel silly for not figuring it out sooner.

Well, I actually haven't gotten a lot of chance to play Xenogears since I bought it, but the music for the first town totally gives it away.

Ahhh... I haven't listened to some good ol' RPG music in awhile, but to tell you the truth, the music is why I play some RPGs.

Problematic:
Dark Icarnation - Ogre Battle 64 (Whenever there is an evil force amongst the cutscenes.)
The Empire - FF6 (It's so deep.)

Battle:
Battle Theme - FFX (Love it!)
Battle Theme - FFX-2 (It's a new wave of battle songs.)
Battle Theme - Ogre Battle (It's really killer, and epical.)

Boss:
Boss - Wild Arms 2 (Good, but continuous.)
Mega Boss - Wild Arms 2 (It's a lot more thrilling than the boss theme.)

Final Boss:
3rd Stage Final Boss - FF8 (I can't remember the name, but it was good.)
1st Stage Final Boss - SMRPG (It really has that Super Mario Theme.)
Final Boss - Paper Mario (It has that rock melody in it.)
Ganondorf - Ocarina of Time (I loved this one a lot.)
Ganon - Ocarina of Time (Unlike a lot of Final Boss themes, this one was slow and chaotic.)
Birth of a God - FF7 (Great trakk!)

Victory:
Victorious - FFX-2 (It's a lot different from all the other FF Fanfares, but I liked it a lot. It was new. It was coo'.)
Victory Fanfare - FF6 (It's the best one, 'cause it has the best instruments and the continuing loop is awesome.)

Groovy:
Chocobo - FF6 (By far the best RPG music ever. It's so groovy and hip.)
Zozo - FF6 (It's kind of light and funky. I was going to put it in the town section, but it's not a town, more of a dungeon. Then I put it in the Groovy Section.)
Moogles - FF6 (This song is so light and fluffy, like a Moogle. It makes me want to have a moogle, so I would hug him so tight, he would go "Kupo!", except I would want it to be Mog, so he would say, "Let KuGo!")

Love:
Tell Me - FF8 (I cannot stop loving this one.)
Love Grows - FF8 (It's so mellow it kind of saddening.)

Dungeon:
Floating Continent - FF6 (I'm talking about when you're walking around
Devil's Lab - FF6 (It's so much better on the game. It's INDUSTRIAL, and that's cool.)

Grand:
Overworld - FF6 (So fresh. So clean.)
Awakening - FF6 (The extra entrance over Overworld makes it more of an awakening.)
Jidoor - FF6 (Funky.)

Sad:
Aeris' Theme - FF7 (It's really sad.)
Heart Abroken - FF6 (Y'know when Celese gets mad at Locke or commits suicide. That. It's so sad I might skip the crying and die!)

Town:
Children Run Through the City - FF6 (It's so graceful.)
Town - Wild Arms 2 (It's really light.)

Upbeat:
Locke's Theme - FF6 (So Great! Loved it when I was a youngen.)
Cid's Airship - FF7 (YEESSSS!!!!)
Big Whale - FF4 (So good.)
Ragnarok - FF8 (I'm talking about the PC version that sounds better.)

THAT'S WHAT I HAVE S'FAR!!!

AH HA HA HA HA! Well, he pretty much well said it. But yes, I was Sir Lionheart, then Sir Phoenix Drake, and by the time I reached Setu Firestorm, I said screw it and kept the name.

However, Jordan Frazier, Jessica Park, and Brian Buyea (Chaz VanLanden) are real people that are friends of mine.
