...except that I'm pretty sure BAM only has one volume level. Unless, of course, you turn down your speaker volume.

I suppose, although the volume controls implemented in the menu in an OHRRPGCE game never seemed to work for me. Anyone else notice this?

They don't work for me because of the reasons I previously stated.

yea true...you must've posted that while i was writing my post...if only James could have integrated midi files into the OHRRPGCE engine rather than BAMs. I know James said it was possible, but I also remember the reason why he said he would probably never switch the sound format.

It was possible with the OLD old Midis, which were basically exactly the same as BAMs, but the new ones use wavetables or whatever, and they must be converted into BAMs for them to be the old kind again, that does work with the OHR (the old MIDIs wouldn't work only because they didn't end in .bam, as well). It's somewhere in the FAQ.

Ya know, I think the only thing OHR is short of perfection in is simply this:
".wav files"....or some sort of sound effect. I know you can manipulate BAMs to simulate sound effects (like footsteps), but it'd just be cool if you could do that.....and MIDI capability. Sir Lionheart has told me how much he thinks ONLY 9 voices going on at one time really sucks!

But, then again, I really don't know if you could program that into a VGA program.

http://www.hamsterrepublic.com/ohrrpgce/rpgfaq.html#why_did_you_choose_bam_music_over_other_formats
The Wavetable issue is in there.

http://www.hamsterrepublic.com/ohrrpgce/rpgfaq.html#why_does_bam_music_sound_worse_than_midi_music
The quality issue of BAM music is in there.

http://www.hamsterrepublic.com/ohrrpgce/rpgfaq.html#will_you_ever_support_wav_files
or
http://www.hamsterrepublic.com/ohrrpgce/rpgfaq.html#will_there_ever_be_sound_effects
And the sound effect issue's in there.

One time it was almost a year before he updated... unless I'm unintentionally exaggerating. I just know it was a LONG, LONG time.

If you all really want to know, why don't you mail James, and ASK
him when the next update will be? Then you can tell the rest of us ;-)
