I finally began making a new background for my game, but I am taking way too long on it, even when I'm not procrastinating.

I've done the anti-aliasing by hand for this one. It is difficult to tell that it's anti-alised until you zoom in, then suddenly the lines are blurry. Plus you can compare to the ugly tree on the very, very right. The tree in the upper middle is near finished, as I began raising the grass to cover the roots of it (but haven't polished up that effect yet). The highlights on the back trees need to be redone.

And I need to place different tiles on the grass to add variety, but that can be a last moment thing.

I'm more complete on the background now (finally). I'm sure there are many things wrong with the trees, though.

Of the five big trees, 1,3 and 5 seem alright, but 2 and 4 which are identical look like they lack the fluffiness or spruceyness (being more puffy for the leaves) that should come considering its trunk size. Other than that, It looks fine to me.

I don't get what you mean by puffy... As in shape?

I did copy and paste for those two trees, as I thought I was going to add normal tiled trees under them, but I didn't do that after all.

I hope that makes more sense.

I'll try and go for that fix, but don't expect a huge change, though.

(By that, I will tweak the trees without completely redrawing them.)

Is this better? I think it is.

I really like the style that you have going on here. It gives it a really nice feel in my opinion.

I need to step up the work on mine as well Oookay...

Oi oi... I do wish I could have done better. Mostly on due to laziness, but...

Now it's time to work on new content.

I'm sorry I can't pinpoint the problem, but there's something that looks wrong with the tree trunk shading.
I'll try posting an edit of what I mean eventually.

Otherwise, the style is pretty consistent with the rest of the game.
Keep up the good work.

Is there a particular tree or all of the trees?

Well, all of the trees.
I think that it's just unnatural for that much light to be shining off of the trunks.

I need to keep the light shining on it to define the shape of the trunks, and even then I didn't do a good job with a shape for some of the trees, so I will quickly tweak that.

EDIT:

Your latest tweak looks better.

One of the things that threw me off when I was trying to edit was the shape of the trees. It's odd that one root would be so much bigger than the other roots. But if that's the style of your game, then that's totally cool.

Another issue was the lighting.
I don't think I did a very good job myself, but I think I did enough to point it out.

I don't think that the light of on tree bark focuses completely on the tip of the root, rather I've always felt that light should also be distributed vertically up the trunk.

Hope I helped.

Also, even though I pointed it out many times before, your palette is awesome to work with.
