Got a chance to work on a few tiles today. Since theyre coming in multiple shades it takes a lil more effort to make each tile look right. Luckily things are turning out as planned. Heres a preview:

Hopefuly things will continue to look that good.

Finished a good amount of the overworld tileset. Just a small preview of the forest tileset. If any part of it looks way too obvious or eye-irritating please tell me.

The first one is pretty damn good. The texture for the forest is good, but repetitive. I know the limitations of OHR as well as anybody, so I won't be too harsh about it. I'd also put a visible hint of tree trucks in the shadow underlining the forest, and not just outside of the shadow; it looks a little out of depth otherwise (and like the sun is just a couple miles away).

Good mapping, though, I must say. Keep it going. I'll be sure to give the game a try when it releases.

Very nice, Veld. Very nice indeed.

The first set (the rocky cliff) looks 3D, which is always a plus. Especially when you're very limited in regards to colours, so extra points there.

Second set (the forest) is pretty good - the tiles map together and reduce the "squareness" of the tiles. Although, the part of the tile where the darkest colour is used in the actual foliage...it makes it look like it's repeating. If you can spread this evenly enough to make it look random, it'd look even better and maybe even mask the fact that it's a square tile altogether.

Can't wait to see more previews.

Hi again. Thanks for the critiques. I reviewed over the tiles and started over on the entire forest bit. There wasn't enough randomness so I tried a different technique. Comments/critique welcome.

The mountains look good, blocky and uneven in parts. how terrain mountains should look.

To be honest, I'd prefer the first forest than the second, my reason being.. the first one flows better than the second. The second looks like it'd make a better grass tile with it's vast randomness and no to little flow.
The main reason the first looked repetitive was because there's a huge difference between the light and dark areas of the forest, making them stand out like a sore thumb. a good mix is all it needs.

Hi again. Completely changed techniques again (by simply DRAWING trees instead of implying them). Frankly it looks like its been ripped from FF6 or something, what do you guys think now?

Much, much better.

There's more definition rather than just a random spraying of greens.

Unless there's some way of making it better, I'd say stick with this one.

The last forest is most definitely the best one. But you've got a few really bright pixels in there that kind of emphasize the grid a lot. You should either add more bright pixels to even it out or make the existing bright pixels a bit darker (I'd recommend the latter, myself, but either one could work).

Thanks for the feedback guys. Completed another set, wildgrass+cliffs. Critiques welcome.

O_O Jesus McChrist, those look bloody realistic. *jealousy kicks in*
Um....there's only one suggestion I have...and that is: There is a small area where it's kinda blocky (it's a round blob where all the pixels are darker)..but besides that, wow....Happy

Edit: That darker area looks like it's underlying dirt, actually. It's probably the jpg quality screwing it up, heh
