This space is reserved for updates on my first game, The Omega. If you never caught my spill on the game, here it is:
Quote: | Let me start off by saying I am embarrassed. Embarrassed at the fact that i've been a part of this community (off and on) for 6+ years. Within that time, I haven't really done anything to contribute to the community or make a presence in it.
I started a 528 hour contest one year, but wasn't able to complete it like I should have done. I feel bad about that.
I also started up an OHR FAQs/review site way back in the day. Not that it would've stood out back then, I still should've kept on with it.
I started several projects, but never finished a single one, much less release a demo for any of them. That is pathetic, and I hate that I talked so much about stuff and never went through with it.
Not anymore.
Finally, after all of these years, decided to suck it up and try and make a game. No backing out this time. I started making this game on 3/19/07. Full name is The Attack Fish Chronicles Volume I: The Omega or just The Omega. It is the first installment in a three part series that I will make using this engine. No more excuses.
I have really enjoyed making this game so far. The first installment is based off a game Timmy (Fred's Crazy Adventures of the Lost World, Bj's Peanut Adventure, and my friend of many many years) made years ago. We always used to say that we'd complete it together one day. Timmy, unfortunately, is not part of the community now, but I plan on bringing his ideas along with some new ones to the world once and for all. |
With that being said, I will post all updates and progress I make with my game here.

-Upgraded some graphics; namely Fred and Alan's walkabout and battle pictures, some battle backdrops, and a few other minor changes.

Is that a little better?
-Dialogue! I'm working on getting it sorted out. My brother is a great writer, but he's kinda lost his heart in this project (as if it didn't show). I plan on altering the text every chance I can get.
If ANYBODY has any suggestions, comments, or constructive criticism about any aspect of my game, please let me know! _________________ MOCBJ Software - My Games

That is much better. My biggest complaint with the new one (although this was doubly true with the old one) is that the heroes are too close to the horizon. It makes them look taller than the mountains. _________________

Noted. I was thinking the same thing with the trees. I will definitely work on that. _________________ MOCBJ Software - My Games

I like how the old screen shot of the indoor place looked not-half-bad, yet you still put effort to improve it.
And I concur with the mountains and trees thing. Especially make the trees much taller since the heroes are closer to the trees than the mountains.
EDIT: Heh. I just now noticed the improvement in the battle sprites, especially Gluep and Alan. _________________

Well, there were things that I was still unhappy with: for instance, the fire in the forge. I changed it so it has more of a "coal" look to it, and I think it is more fitting. The first beds were always placeholders so I decided to update them as well.
Some more updates from 8-2-07....
-Uploaded 20 different sound effects
-Edited and corrected more dialogue
-Created taller trees
-Added shadows to buildings and some npcs
-Cleaned up the intro graphics a bit
-Added some foliage and dead grass to desert tiles to break monotony
-Added some props to break intro castle monotony
-Re-shaded the imp you fight in gluep village
-Fixed several script bugs
More to come today! _________________ MOCBJ Software - My Games

I kind of liked the old Gluep, but that's not really an issue. The only thing I might want to suggest is that in the room upgrade, I don't like the new anvil. It is too bright and undefined; I think it was better darker and with the 'outline', so to speak. Just my thoughts. _________________ My first completed OHR game, Tales of the New World:

I was somewhat partial to the old gluep myself, but I just couldn't figure out a good way to shade him so he'd look as good as the other heroes. I do like the new Gluep good enough though.
About the anvil....I personally thought it (along with the piles of bars) were tacky with the black outline. If you look close, the anvil is still defined even though it is a littler brighter (you can clearly see where the top of the anvil is and the seperation of the rest of it).
Updates for today! 8-3-07
-Fixed several script bugs
-Updated all of the animated hero walkabouts to the new graphic set
-Altered the forest tiles to somewhat take advantage of layering
-Placed various sound effects for different events in the game
-Added two "flashback" cutscene thingys
-Other things that I can't think of...
-Decreased imp boss' HP by 1/5....fight should still be tough but just not take as long.
Coming up soon...
-Reworked dialogue up to Mage Tower
-Adding relevant dialogue to Jersey (Yeah, no more various game quotes)
-Altering the armor system
-Better backdrops
-Boss adjustments
-Npc/Enemy shadows _________________ MOCBJ Software - My Games

I guess the anvil may look better when it is bigger. Using the pics here, I have trouble telling what it is on first and even second glance, which is the worst possible graphical flaw (to me). That's not to say that none of my graphics require some double-takes on occasion... _________________ My first completed OHR game, Tales of the New World:

I have decided to completely tear apart my current battle system and reconstruct it in a more exciting way. Armor, items, enemies, and heroes are all going to be changed in terms of battle. This will likely take days, if not, a few weeks, so bear with me during this time. I think the final product from this change will be a lot more exciting though _________________ MOCBJ Software - My Games

-Still working on my new battle system. Trying to make sure its balanced and cannot be exploited. Also running into some scripting problems, but those should be resolved soon.
-Added a new side quest feature to the game. I won't say much so it won't spoil anything, but I think it will be really cool.
-Cleaned up some of the enemies, added a couple of new ones.

I have made some good progress today, although my potential battle system has failed. After testing it several times it seemed as if it could be easily exploited. Therefore, it is back to its original state, but I have completely reworked hero/enemy/boss stats as well as the special skill/ability system. Although the new ability system isn't groundbreaking by any means, I think it will add a little flavor to the game.
Other updates include:
-All dialogue up to Terra Firma has been reworked
-All battles/abilities up to Terra Firma has been reworked
-All backdrops have been updated
-A few enemies have been reshaded
I am getting close to having a file ready for testing. Here's a list of things to be completed before a new playtesting version is released. I will underline completed tasks, and when there's none left, a new version will be sent to each person who volunteered to playtest (Thank you so much for the help!).
-NPC Shadows
-Text in Jersey will be completely redone. No more memorable video game quotes!
-Add a few props to Gluep Mountain
-Update the beginner's guide item
-Add an ability text file for reference to the game (will make sense when you play the most recent version)
-Finish tweaking the mining/boulder scripts
-Fix a few various bugs
-Re-shade a few enemies
-Add several side quests to Jersey
-Redo up to Mage Tower
-Add more props to Jersey (especially interior)
-Add more npc variations
By the way, I would REALLY appreciate one more person willing to be a playtester. As of right now I have two, which is fantastic, but three would be perfect. If you might be interested, please let me know! _________________ MOCBJ Software - My Games
